With BlizzCon 2026 scheduled for this September, Blizzard is hard at work preparing all the many announcements and surprises for the event.
Back in 2024, reporter Jason Schreier published a book called "Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment, where he first mentions that the studio is working on a new StarCraft game. The game is intended to be a third-person shooter, instead of another RTS.
It is known that Blizzard has attempted to make a StarCraft shooter twice in the past, but both projects were cancelled. Now, a team of developers is working on this title under the leadership of Dan Hay, an ex-Ubisoft developer who previously worked on the Far Cry franchise.
That rumor resurfaced again in a new article on WindowsCentral posted by Jez Corden. The report not only states that the project is real, but it also predicts that this game will headline the upcoming convention.

We are still a few months away from BlizzCon, but if the title is getting announced during the event, we will most likely get our first look during the opening ceremony, and more information should be revealed at a separate dedicated panel.
A release date is something difficult to predict at this stage, especially because we don't know how far in development the title is. The time between announcement and release have varies for recent titles. Diablo IV was announced at the end of 2019 but was not released until 2023, although this could be an exception since COVID may have influenced and delayed development.
On the other side, the first Overwatch was announced at the end of 2014 and released in 2016, meaning there was only a year and a half gap for this case.
Whatever the case may be, the new StarCraft title will arrive more than 15 years after the last proper title (excluding expansions and remasters), which is StarCraft II in 2010.
Once we hear more about this third-person shooter, we will keep you updated. In the meantime, stick with us here at Gfinityesports.com, the best website for all things gaming.
