Battlefield 6 is officially out in the wild and players are already having the time of their lives blowing up buildings, reviving teammates and having fun climbing the leaderboards. While the vast majority of the community seems pretty please, a portion of it is also calling out Battlefield Studios for its bizarre new skins.

The user u/Ohforkf on the Battlefield subreddit expressed his disappointment that some of the skins in the Season 1 Battle Pass already include a cosmetic skin that doesn’t resemble the ‘realistic’ military costume, even calling them “paintball skins.” This is after Battlefield Studios’ promised fans that there will be “grounded skins for a while,” and it took only 18 days for the studio to break from that promise.

A fan complain.

Battlefield 6 has been praised by many as one of the remaining “grounded” military shooters in the market, with some fans even comparing it to the current state of the Call of Duty franchise, where it has undergone an odd transformation focusing on crossover franchises that feel out of place in the shooter.

It seems like Battlefield 6 is going in that direction, albeit slowly. Fans are already demanding Battlefield Studios that creating grounded military skins “isn’t too much to ask for.” They even go through lengths at comparing Battlefield 6 to Battlefield 1, which had the best grounded military skins in a Battlefield game ever. Some fans were even defending this, saying that it’s far better than Beavis and Butt-Head or Peter Griffin, but it’s already a low bar according to other users.

Battlefield 6 Battle Pass

This is far from the ‘end’ of Battlefield 6 embracing grounded realism though, as these skins still resemble regular outfits compared to Nicki Minaj in Call of Duty. The rest of the costumes in the Battlefield 6 Season 1 Battle Pass still have grounded realism over it, but players collectively agree some of the new skins are ugly and feel like Battle Pass fodder. Some even joked that they won’t revive any players wearing the unappealing Battlefield 6 skins.

The search for the most ‘grounded’ realistic shooter has been going on for quite a while since Call of Duty abandoned it years ago in favor of hamfisted crossovers. Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six: Siege has also developed Fortnite-like cosmetics with Rick & Morty and 2B from NieR: Automata.

Gotta go fast.

It’s only a matter of time before Battlefield 6 runs out of ‘grounded’ costume ideas and inserts bizarre colors that go against the essence of military camouflage. But for now, while some of the skins are bad, it’s not as egregious as its peers.
