  • Quick Answer: A 10-minute Halo: Campaign Evolved gameplay showcases the new third-person mode.

Just days after revealing gameplay from the remake's additional missions at the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, Halo Studios has published two Halo: Campaign Evolved gameplay videos.

One of them is a half-hour gameplay demo where we can see a playthrough of the Assault on the Control Room mission, one of the longest in the original game.

The second video is a 10-minute playthrough of the mission The Silent Cartographer, but played in third-person. That's right, the remake will allow players to experience the campaign from start to finish in third-person, uncharted territory for a franchise that it's synonym to first-person.

The original had a fully working third-person camera integrated, as Bungie had developed that feature, but it's only enabled when driving a vehicle.

You can watch the third-person gameplay demo below:

The third-person mode won't be available right away, as this feature is part of the game's Skulls. Skulls are collectibles that can be acquired throughout the campaign, and each one gives access to a gameplay-modifying feature. The Skull that turns the camera into third-person is called Perspective, rightfully so, and it's shown at the start of the gameplay video.

At the time of writing, we don't know where this Skull can be obtained. However, we will probably make a guide with this information once the game is available.

Campaign Evolved will feature 42 Skulls, 26 from past legacy games and 12 brand-new ones. Some of the new Skulls disable the new sprint mechanic, make UNSC vehicles indestructible, disable weapon zoom functionality, disable extra damage on headshots, make enemy factions fight one another, etc.

Halo: Campaign Evolved was developed with Unreal Engine 5 and is scheduled to come out on July 28, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
