Whitesky Peak and Volcano are abundant in Obsidian rocks.
You can also find it scattered around peaks on The Island.
If you're playing on the Scorched Earth map you'll find it in the artifact caves.
Further into your gameplay, Obsidian will become really useful as you can eventually turn it into Polymer which can be used for crafting.
You'll need a Metal Pick to harvest the resource.
