The Lord of the Rings Super Bowl Spot Takes Us Back to Middle Earth

After years in production, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power finally gave fans its first footage. The first trailer for this highly anticipated show was revealed during Super Bowl LVI.

The 60-second preview is an epic visual delight, stacked full of magic, mayhem, and mystery, and it looks like it'll recaptures the wonders of the Peter Jackson epic films. Through the spot alone, we bear witness to eye-catching landscapes, intricate creatures, and some familiar characters you might recognise.

We catch a glimpse of a young Galadriel and even a promising Elrond, with the series offering a meaty prequel to the movies. The Rings of Power’s showrunners, JD Payne and Patrick McKay, previously confirmed the show’s setting as Middle-Earth’s second age.

The show’s spectacle and scope has clearly been influenced by Game of Thrones, which pushed the boundaries for big-budget storytelling on the small screen.

Amazon clearly splashed the cash, as the rights to the Tolkien estate alone cost a staggering $250 million. The property is now back on sale with films, tv, and video games up for grabs. If purchased, the bill could reach an extortionate $2 billion.

Season 1 of the Amazon production is already the most expensive season of all time so expectations are extremely high. But based on the preview alone, the series looks like it’s off to a ruling start.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is coming to Amazon Prime on September 2nd.
