Palworld developer Pocketpair has unveiled Palfarm, a farming simulator spin-off. No, it’s not a belated April Fool’s joke; it’s happening just two weeks after Game Freak unveiled Pokemon Pokopia, their version of a farming simulator using little monster creatures to do one's bidding.
The reveal came as a shock on September 22, with the official Palworld X (formerly known as Twitter) account confirming the project. Pocketpair Communications Director and Publishing Manager Bucky mentioned that the game has been in the works for over a year.
It makes a semblance of sense that the developers are moving resources to expand the IP, as Palworld 1.0 has been slated for release in 2026. Still, with the legal ongoing issues they’ve faced in recent years, in what’s essentially a losing battle against Nintendo and The Pokemon Company, it makes sense they pivot to another concept in case, push comes to shove, the big corporations decide they want to continue making their lives a living hell.
As similar as it may seem to the likes of Animal Crossing or Pokopia, Nintendo (or any developer for that matter) owns the concept of farming simulators. I wouldn’t put it past them to start patenting vague concepts to instill fear, though.
In any case, Palfarm looks to be something a certain section of Palworld fans may enjoy. It’s got the “cozy” feeling of farming simulators while retaining some of the more action-oriented aspects of the original game, as pesky Pals might try to raid your farm and steal the crops from your hard-working Pals.
When Is Palfarm Coming Out?
There’s no release date for Palfarm.
You can, however, wishlist the game via Steam. It’s likely it’ll become an early access game. Hopefully, for those interested, Pocketpair can give fans more information in the near future.
