Monster Hunter Wilds’ Final Fantasy Crossover Is Great, but I Have an Even Better Idea

There is no better time to be a fan of Monster Hunter Wilds than now, as the game was recently updated to implement the Final Fantasy XIV crossover. It brought about plenty of amazing changes, from the powerful and gigantic Omega Planetes creature to armor and abilities synonymous with the 14th installment of the franchise, which is currently being enjoyed by many.

As amazing as the crossover is, I believe that another could upstage it, assuming Monster Hunter Wilds does more. Among all the IPs owned by Capcom, if there's one that can do a collaboration that turns heads just as much or more than Final Fantasy, it has to be none other than Devil May Cry.

Although such a crossover already happened in Monster Hunter World, and it was an amazing one, it felt like more could have been done with it. This could be Capcom's opportunity to make it even better, and they have more to work with, as now there's the ever-popular Devil May Cry V.

The returning collaboration could provide players with the chance to dress as the older Dante, one who's more suave and rugged compared to his younger appearance in the previous crossover. If not him, then there are also other popular characters, such as Nero and especially Vergil, whom I know many would jump at the chance to make their Hunter look similar to.

However, if you think that just looking like iconic characters won't be enough to warrant a second run of the collaboration, then perhaps the potential addition of Devil May Cry's equipment and abilities might. The Final Fantasy crossover resulted in the implementation of the Pictomancy spell, Mog of Ages, and armor reminiscent of the Dark Knight class, which is great, but didn't really wow fans, considering that the two aren't exactly the most heavily renowned in the FF franchise.

Although if it were something like Vergil's iconic Yamato and its famous Judgement Cut ability instead, I do not doubt that it would cause quite a stir within the community. Aside from that example, Capcom's Devil May Cry has many other weapons and abilities that fans would instantly recognize, and they could certainly turn more heads than what the Final Fantasy collaboration brought.

The only thing that such a collaboration will likely not be able to do, even the second time around, is to bring in a new monster, as it may be harder to explain how talking demons made their way into Monster Hunter. But I say it doesn't need it, as the thought of being able to play in the style of one of the best hack-and-slash action-adventure games should be more than enough to make people really want and love it.

With Capcom providing more support for Monster Hunter Wilds, there is still optimism that there will be a returning Devil May Cry crossover one day. I am confident that it would do much better than the one with Final Fantasy XIV, and I hope it happens, given what it could do for the game and how much fans would enjoy it.
