Why an Elden Ring Monster Hunter Collab Makes Sense

Imagine two of the biggest games in modern gaming collaborating on a project that seems to fit their genres perfectly. Capcom’s Monster Hunter and FromSoftware’s Elden Ring working together may sound like a crazy idea, but it could be possible.

One Elden Ring mod highlights a Tarnished facing off against Valstrax, Monster Hunter’s jet-powered Elder Dragon. The mod saw Valstrax replacing Bayle the Dread in its boss location. Valstrax uses the same moves it has in Monster Hunter Rise, with its signature laser beams and wingspan strikes.

The base game of Elden Ring and its DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, are already unlikely to get a collaboration since its promotional days are over. Elden Ring: Nightreign, however, could well benefit from a Capcom Monster Hunter collab.

Elden Ring: Nightreign and Monster Hunter

Adding Monster Hunter’s iconic roster, like Tigrex, Rathalos, or maybe even Fatalis, into Elden Ring: Nightreign’s selection of bosses could be interesting. Both games share the same action RPG DNA with constant dodging and hitting monsters until their health drops to zero.

The Monster Hunter series was always built with co-op in mind, so hunting with strangers and friends was always a high point in the game. Now that FromSoftware has adopted that same formula with Nightreign, hunting massive monsters already feels familiar from its growing playerbase.

That one mod with Valstrax solidifies the possibility of seeing an Elden Ring game with Monster Hunter bosses, although FromSoftware would have to tweak its aggression levels and health pool since Nightreign doesn’t have any breakable monster parts as a mechanic.

An Elden Ring collaboration for Monster Hunter sounds like the type of crossover project that could work. Unlike Final Fantasy XIV, which is largely an MMO, Elden Ring’s action genre already fits the formula of Monster Hunter.

Notable FromSoftware dragons like Bayle the Dread or Lichdragon Fortissax wouldn’t be unfamiliar to Monster Hunter fans, as they’ve seen far crazier designs like Yama Tsukami or even Zorah Magdaros. Putting them in a game like Monster Hunter Wilds isn’t a strange idea.

The only thing Capcom needs to do is to make the creature scale similar to their in-game skeletons. Movesets would also need to be adjusted to offset Elden Ring’s more aggressive style. To add to that, Capcom would also consider implementing specific features like monster Wounds and armor/weapon designs.

With Wilds’ imminent expansion coming soon, we could see more crossover events from third-party franchises. Capcom is known for in-house collaborations such as Okami, Devil May Cry, and Street Fighter, in their games, so a completely different franchise would benefit both in terms of marketing and exposure.

Both games are currently leading the live-service action games format, and seeing collaborations for these two giants can be huge. It’s already possible with mods, so someone at Capcom and FromSoftware might be interested in this idea, and it’s only a matter of time before these two can work together and create one fascinating experience.
