Marvel Rivals Needs to Give Better Skins to Other Heroes, Not Just the Favorites

In a hero shooter like Marvel Rivals, there are a lot of characters for players to choose from. While they all have their default look, NetEase Games has also provided them with alternate skins that can be purchased and equipped to change their appearances.

Since the game's release, a good number of such cosmetics have been introduced, and it's great that there are many different options to choose from. However, I, and likely many others, have noticed a problem regarding them: the best ones are limited to only the popular heroes.

Don't get me wrong, nearly all of the skins are top-quality and worthwhile in their own regard, but some were definitely meant to stand out over the rest, especially those that change the sound effects and looks of certain moves. One would think that NetEase would give such amazing cosmetics to every hero as soon as possible, but that doesn't look to be the case.

It seems that the developer is giving them to characters who are considered fan favorites, like Luna Snow, Spider-Man, and Cloak and Dagger, which is great for those who play them, but frustrating for everyone else. Skins that do more than alter a hero's appearance shouldn't just be reserved for the popular picks, as that could lead to a bunch of problems.

For one, it could lead to a good number of people leaving the game altogether. Fans will often look to purchase Marvel Rivals skins for their favorite character, but if they see that theirs doesn't get the same amount of treatment as that of the more popular heroes in terms of cosmetics, they'll likely be disheartened. If they continue to feel disappointed with the lack of top-quality skins for their favorites, it could lead to them no longer caring about the game and quitting it outright.

Another problem of giving high-effort skins to only the popular heroes is that it puts NetEase Games in an uncomfortable spotlight. The developer has full control over which hero receives what, and based on the available content, it feels as though it's only making cosmetics that guarantee sales.

In a way, such a move is understandable as it's a method to ensure Marvel Rivals continues to have a long lifespan. However, it also paints NetEase Games as another opportunist rather than a company that cares about its fans.

Continuing to ignore the less desirable heroes for the more popular ones could lead to them losing much of the goodwill they've managed to build up, potentially resulting in even the most dedicated fans no longer seeing them in a positive light. Much like the previous problem, such a thing may make players leave for another hero shooter, which is the last thing the developer would want to happen.

If Marvel Rivals wants to continue being successful and relevant, then every hero will need to have their own top-quality skins that do more than just change their appearance. Because if NetEase Games doesn't do that, and soon, I have little to no hope of seeing the game survive.
