Marvel Rivals’ latest hero Daredevil is coming this October 10 for the game’s Season 4.5. To everyone’s surprise, NetEase actually brought back a comic accurate disability for the vigilante, making his blindness part of his gameplay.
In the official comics, Daredevil’s vision has been impaired after a freak accident causing a chemical waste that burns his eyes, resulting in his blindness. In Marvel Rivals, Matt Murdock is still blind, but this version of Daredevil has been possessed by “The Beast,” buffing his physical strength and his abilities to near godlike status.
Of course, trying to replicate Matt Murdock's abilities to a tee could result in a very unpleasant experience. Luckily, NetEase managed to strike a balance and does something completely different while still aligning to his origin story. Basically, Daredevil can’t sense anything beyond thirty-meters and only uses his enhanced hearing to see enemies in the game.
Daredevil can be seen lurking behind enemy lines in the recent gameplay trailer NetEase posted. This hints at his “dive” role as a Duelist, making the lives of Strategists a bit harder. We can also see that Matt will have a limited field of view, resulting in the entire map filled with darkness from a distance.
The good news is that while Daredevil is impaired on the visual side, his hearing is greatly enhanced. He can “see” enemies behind walls (including a hidden Invisible Woman). This gives him enough advantage to sneak past enemy backlines and mess their flow. This makes him incredibly useful as a flanker similar to Duelists like Iron Fist and Black Panther. Better yet, he also serves as an anti-flanker for his team, as he can sense incoming threats before the enemy even knows it.
Aspiring Daredevil mains might have to get used to this new style of gameplay. While it acts as a limiting feature, it doesn’t mean Daredevil is underpowered. This is actually a great balance choice from NetEase, since making him partially blind won’t make some of his abilities like essentially having wallhacks overpowered. You don’t want to deal with a Daredevil main seeing a sniper like Black Widow from miles away. With his improved abilities, his iconic Billy Club weapon is imbued by The Beast’s supernatural powers, making him deal massive damage on unsuspecting foes. He can also wall climb, essentially making him into Marvel Rivals’ version of Genji from Blizzard’s Overwatch, especially with his close-ranged capabilities.

Daredevil being actually blind in Marvel Rivals is actually a pretty interesting design choice, as videogame adaptations of his character don't need to worry about his partial blindness due to “Gameplay reasons.” NetEase seems to be having fun designing this character given that it’s still in line with Matt Murdock’s default abilities. Unfortunately, his lawyering days seem to be over in this universe.
