Gen 10 Pokemon Leaked: Wind/Wave Features Infinite Procedural Islands

Pokemon Wind Waves

Pokemon just had its biggest leak in a long, long time after dataminers found Game Freak’s 5-year roadmap for the franchise’s upcoming titles. This includes DLCs for their Animal Crossing-like game Pokopia, an ambitious Pokemon MMO with seamless multi-regional exploration, and more importantly, Gen 10.

Pokemon fans have long speculated on what Gen 10 could be, but they don’t have to worry about that anymore as Centro LEAKS has unveiled new information about the next mainline Pokemon game, including a radical shift to Pikachu’s redesign.

Titled “Pokemon Wind/Wave,” this next generation Pokemon might be the series’ most ambitious yet in terms of gameplay and scope. For starters, it will take place in Southeast Asia, with most biomes inspired from Indonesia, Philippines and Malaysia with its lush valleys and jungles. Fans are already glad they’re moving away from the familiar Europe and Japan regions, which is a breath of fresh air for them.

Pokemon Wind and Wave's opening will start out players in a big resort hotel that will likely have MMO features with some sort of multiplayer functionality. However, Centro LEAKS iterated that this was a feature in early development, meaning it could be scrapped.

Just like previous mainline Pokemon entries, Gen 10 will have two versions available for purchase: Wind and Wave, of course. Wind has the protagonist harnessing the power of the winds to guide you to points of interests, whereas Pokemon Wave will have your character ride the waves.

The game’s exploration is promising, as it involves players exploring procedurally underwater open-worlds a la Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky. Additionally, it’s not only the underwater getting something interesting, players can also explore other islands with randomly generated content. According to the datamined information, players will be able to upload the islands they discovered through the game’s servers. This goes in line with the game’s main theme of “Infinity,” meaning players could be playing this for hours on end and still discovering something unique.

Additional details from the leak including players having access to a “Seed” Pokemon at the start of their adventures. They must raise it to a certain level so they can enter an island for the main legendary. The “Seed” will reportedly scale with the procedurally generated islands as well, and its evolution will also be randomly generated, meaning players will have unique looking patterns for their Seed Pokemon evolution.

One of the biggest questions from the fans is how gameplay will work in Wind/Wave. Centro LEAKS are also curious to see whether or not Game Freak will maintain the series’ signature turn-based combat or they opt for a more real-time approach similar to Pokemon Legends Z-A.

Considering that Pokemon Wind and Wave will be a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, it will also see Game Freak moving away from their proprietary engine for a new unnamed graphics engine, which is good news for others complaining about the game’s dated visuals.

And that’s about it. Pokemon Wind and Wave is shaping up to be a major Pokemon game that will revolutionize the series, and if the leaks prove true, this might be one of Nintendo's best yet. Keep in mind that leaks like this need to be taken with a grain of salt. They are always subject to change as some of this information has already been unveiled by the massive Teraleak event last year.
