Borderlands 4 might be doing a lot of different things, but it’s still a looter shooter at heart, which means endgame content. While the improved traversal and focus on RPG mechanics are nice, a ton of fans will be breezing through the campaign in order to get to that post-game. Gearbox and 2K Games are aware of this, as they have numerous plans in place for these players.
The looter shooter series has always done a good job of giving players plenty of activities to do after beating the main story. It’s become something of a tradition for Borderlands, which is why they always have online and local co-op. Fans can’t really complain about having more of the game to play, especially when that content is really fun.
So, without further ado, here’s what we know about the Borderlands 4 endgame.
New Progression and Gear Systems
Once fans beat the main story of BL4, they will unlock post-game exclusive skill trees and gear systems unique to this mode. It adds plenty of replayability and will serve as the basis for some of the upcoming DLC.
Specializations
A new skill tree that’s divided into four parts: Brute, Sharpshooter, Survivor, and Runner. These four traits determine what your Vault Hunter will be like during the postgame. Players will simply have to level up in order to increase these Specializations.
Firmware
This new loot feature will allow players to obtain exclusive perks by collecting loot with the same Firmware in Borderlands 4. Luckily, players will be able to transfer these perks to other equipment, so they aren’t stuck with said loot. This does mean destroying the equipment, so it’s a risk versus reward situation.
Endgame Activities

Naturally, players will have plenty of things to do once they beat the main campaign. Here’s what’s been announced so far.
Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode
UVHM has been revamped from previous games, so players won’t have to repeat the story of Borderlands 4 in order to level up. Instead, there will be various in-game boss fights and challenges to partake in. With five difficulty levels and enemies that scale to player levels, this is going to be a long and satisfying grind for many.
Moxxi’s Encore Machine
For players who like replaying boss fights. These versions of the bosses will have increased loot drops, which should help players get better for the endgame content.
Weekly Wildcard Missions
Almost turning Borderlands 4 into a live-service shooter, these are additional activities players can do to get bonus loot and other prizes. Legendary loot will be available through these challenges, so players had better get ready.
Free and Paid DLC
Gearbox Software and 2K Games are preparing plenty of Borderlands 4 content that will be released after the shooter RPG’s launch. This will include free activities, seasons, and paid story packs, which are scheduled to be released between 2025 and 2026. New Vault Hunters are also planned as paid DLC, which should further increase the replay value.
