Battlefield 6 retains its classic four-class setup of Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon while adding a new progression system known as Field Specs.
These work as passive perks that improve as you help your team during a match.
They relate to certain classes and are built to highlight players who stay active, whether through advancing, supporting the team, or defending critical spots.
Any effort that benefits your squad or advances the objective adds to your progress. Eliminating enemies, reviving downed teammates, resupplying ammo, repairing friendly vehicles, spotting hostiles, and securing capture points all feed into your Field Spec’s experience bar.
Once unlocked in a match, these benefits remain active for that class until the round ends.
Switching to another class mid-game resets that class’s Spec progress, but your previous class’s progress remains saved so you can return and keep leveling it.
With enough time in a single round, it’s entirely possible to max out all four.
How Does Class Training Work in Battlefield 6?
Field Specs are included in every class’ training options and allow specialization in a specific playstyle.

Every class will have a variety of Training paths at release, each associated with a specific Field Spec.
The higher your rank in a match, the stronger the perks you gain, with the final one being an active ability at level three.
Although more options are likely after launch, the beta currently has one Field Spec per class:
- Assault
- Engineer
- Support
- Recon
Each ability is for high-pressure moments, with Recon using UAVs to reveal enemies, Engineers repairing faster, and Assault troops taking stimulants to boost focus and durability.
Timing these activations can make the difference in holding or breaking an objective.
In the beta, knowing how to use these perks well is already making the difference in close games, and with more Field Specs on the way, the system is likely to be central to Battlefield 6’s class mechanics.
