The fifth and final season of Amazon’s The Boys is set to release this April 8, 2026, and as a huge fan of the show, a part of me can’t contain the sheer excitement of how ‘scorched earth’ it’s going to be.
As I eagerly anticipate the final season’s arrival, thoughts swirl into my head: “What if Amazon decides to make a fighting game based on The Boys?”

The possibilities here are endless, and it bothers me that no one has decided to make a The Boys fighting game since the show’s premiere 6 years ago. What’s even more bizarre is that Robert Kirkman’s Invincible franchise had a fighting game first before we got Homelander and Butcher fighting to the death.
I have my fair share of daydreams about who should be the developer behind a The Boys fighting game. One possible scenario is NetherRealm Studios, developers behind Injustice: Gods Among Us and the modern Mortal Kombat games. It’s an obvious choice given their track record.
What makes this even better is that NR already has the blueprint for a The Boys fighting game. They already have the gore system we all loved in Mortal Kombat titles, which can easily be translated to a game like The Boys. The similarities are a bit uncanny, considering both games revel in blood and flesh exposed, but I don’t see a fighting game based on The Boys without its signature gritty, bloody violence.

NR could simply take away the X-Ray mechanic from Mortal Kombat if they want it to stand out and add a system thats fits to The Boys' universe. This all seems like a pipedream, but I don’t see any other developer who can make a The Boys fighting game than NetherRealms. Besides, we already had a glimpse of what they can do when they added Homelander to Mortal Kombat 1.
Another thing that I love to see is its roster of characters. The Boys, especially with its comic book series, has a plethora of personalities to choose from. Developers could balance between fan-favorite and underrated heroes, so we should be expecting Butcher, Starlight, Homelander, and maybe even Queen Maeve into the main roster. Others, like Sister Sage, Frenchie, or Gen V’s Cate, might need a moment since their movesets aren’t that flashy.
DLC characters could always dabble with additional characters from the comics, or from Gen V, especially Chance Perdomo’s Polarity (RIP) and Marie Moreau.
Now that we have our roster and developers covered, one question remains: what’s the gimmick? Would it be a tag-fighter? Assist? Or something entirely casual?

Personally, a tag-fighter would work just fine. It might not make a dent in the FGC unless it’s really, really good, like Marvel vs. Capcom 2. They could even use The Boys’ in-universe superhero serum Compound V as the game’s resource meter.
I’m no expert when it comes to fighting games, but as someone who enjoys The Boys and a casual member of the FGC, my safest bet would have to be something akin to a regular 1v1 2D fighter like Street Fighter 6 or that upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender fighting game.
Either way, I just love to see a studio at least try to make a fighting game based on The Boys, a franchise that’s perfectly suited to that kind of treatment.
