Titan Quest 2 was stealth-dropped on Steam as an Early Access release, and ARPG fans are eating it up. Considering how long it's been since the first game’s release, fans were surprised to see that it still plays a lot like its older predecessor, but with prettier graphics. It seems the old-school ARPG aesthetic has worked, as fans view it as a solid alternative to Diablo 4.
Rather than smother players with microtransactions and online-only restrictions, this sequel from THQ Nordic sticks to what the original was good at: big monster battles, grinding, and looting. Luckily, this has led to success, as the game has already sold 300,000 copies, despite being an Early Access release. It goes to show how much fans want to play these games without having to worry about internet access.
While Titan Quest 2 has been good so far, there have been complaints from fans. The game looks great and plays good, some players have said the single-player campaign is too short. Apparently, they were able to quickly finish all of the story content, and there isn’t enough side stuff to indulge in. This can all be fixed with more updates; this is Early Access after all, but we can’t blame fans for their disappointment.
More content will likely be added, since the game is still in Early Access. Even major successes like Hades 2 went through Early Access in order to spice up the gameplay, so we expect to see the same thing here. The game might also get more expansions, as the original Titan Quest had a good amount of them.
It will be interesting to see what Titan Quest 2 is like when the game hits 1.0 and becomes available on more systems. At the time of writing, it seems that only PC players can enjoy the game. This and Darksiders 4 show that there’s room for AA publishers, so we’re interested in seeing what THQ Nordic does next.
