The Secret of Weepstone is an upcoming dungeon-crawler that harkens back to the days of old school tabletop games of the 80’s.
One of the things that you’ll first notice is how The Secrets of Weepstone uses a diegetic menu navigation like flipping through the pages of a classic adventure novel. Paired with its black and white aesthetic, it feels like reading and playing through an RPG at the same time.

Apart from its strikingly distinct hand-drawn art style, The Secrets of Weepstone uses the familiar game of dice for its turn-based gameplay. Similar to titles like Baldur’s Gate 3, your dice is your most important weapon. It can either be your doom or your savior, depending on the roll.
Like Dungeons & Dragons, there’s also some light puzzle solving elements throughout the Weepstone Keep, and your dice will once again play a major role to its success or failure.
Taking place in a dark fantasy kingdom, the main characters of The Secrets of Weepstone are your everyday commonfolk tasked to uncover what lies underneath this abandoned keep. Like a Darkest Dungeon situation, you recruit new allies along the way for your 8-party team, be it a regular farmer, or a battle-hardened warrior, these cast of characters will ride or die with you as you dig deep into the Weepstone Keep.

Once a party member falls in battle, you also get a special mechanic called “Mortal Favors,” a type of buff that boosts your party’s morale, making the run feel like a final gauntlet like Aragorn and the Fellowship marching through the Black Gates of Mordor to help Frodo. But enough of that rambling, The Secrets of Weepstone is designed for players who find the grueling challenge of a dungeon-crawler enjoyable, as well as those obsessed with rolling a natural 20.
Personally, as someone who didn’t grow up with tabletops, The Secret of Weepstone already feels like a natural gateway to new fans of the genre. The art style alone can lure you into its strange and fascinating world filled with classic fantasy creatures like dogbolds and Kobolds.
The Secret of Weepstone is set to release next year for Steam and it’s available to wishlist right now. If you loved a good ol’ fantasy adventure, then you might want to put this game on your radar.
