TT Studios has announced its biggest LEGO Batman game yet, and it might just be the true Arkham successor we’ve been waiting for.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a brand new entry in the LEGO Batman series that brings back everything fans love about the franchise, but in pure LEGO fashion. From the Caped Crusader’s signature Batarangs and trusty sidekicks to his iconic rogue’s gallery, everything is built in LEGO. That’s not a bad thing, especially since much of its gameplay borrows from Rocksteady’s acclaimed Arkham trilogy.
Open World Gotham

Just like Rocksteady pioneered with its superhero series, Legacy of the Dark Knight will be an open-world adventure. Batman can soar across rooftops, grapple with ledges, and ride the Batmobile through the grimy, dimly lit streets of Gotham.
It mirrors the foundation of Rocksteady’s Arkham games, but with a LEGO twist. In the trailer, Batman creates his own Bat-Signal, which could serve as a fast-travel point, and in another scene, he’s rallying the Batmobile through Gotham’s streets, unloading suppressive fire on unruly thugs.
I can already imagine how big this would be if it covered all the sections of Gotham similar to Arkham Knight, but I’m expecting something more toned down without too much bloat.
Combat Feels Fresh Yet Familiar

One of the biggest surprises from the reveal is how the game borrows from Arkham’s fluid combat system. Batman can dodge attacks, perform counters, chain combos, and close the distance between himself and an enemy thug just like in Rocksteady’s games. The difference lies in the LEGO touch, with counter prompts replaced by a more intuitive, brick-inspired approach.
Even the boss fights echo Arkham titles. Batman is seen facing what appears to be a giant thug, baiting him to slam into walls and stun him, similar to what we did with Bane’s boss fight in Asylum. Stealth also makes a return, with Batman sneaking across wires and surveying enemies from the rooftops before striking from the shadows.
An Iconic Rogue's Gallery

No Batman story is complete without its villains, and the trailer already teased a few. The Joker appears with a look reminiscent of Heath Ledger, Bane delivers his iconic Dark Knight Rises monologue, and Catwoman continues on with flirting with the Bat. Penguin also shows up, parodying his iconic moment from Battinson’s The Batman.
For now, these are just the villains we’ve seen, but it’s safe to expect more from Batman’s legendary rogues’ gallery, including Mr. Freeze, Solomon Grundy, and Ra’s al Ghul. And let’s be honest, Riddler trophies could make a comeback, too, just to frustrate players all over again.
There are so many parallels between this new LEGO Batman game and the Arkham trilogy that it’s hard not to get excited. As a longtime Batman fan, this feels like exactly the kind of fresh take we needed after Rocksteady stumbled with their live-service superhero project.
If this were the true spiritual successor to Rocksteady’s Arkham games, then I’m definitely okay with that.
