Tekken 8 Season 3 DLC Wishlist: Less Redemption and More Haters in the Roster

Tekken 8 DLC Wishlist Silhouettes

Tekken 8 DLC Wishlist Silhouettes

Tekken 8 Season 2 is finally coming to a close with the upcoming release of Miary Zo, and while everyone else is riding the hype train or the hate wagon, I am looking further into the future. Tekken 8 has a ton of legacy characters beloved by fans, and I’m here to present to you my wishlist for DLC characters in the upcoming season. Tekken 8 shows a story about hope, a story about the best fighters duking it out for love, friends, and some even about money.

But that isn’t enough for me. Forget your money, forget your love, forget your friends, I want some solid haters in my roster. Tekken 8 is all about turning to the bright side and choosing life, but as we can see from the recent Armor King release, the fans want something visceral. That is why, in my wishlist, I want to bring the biggest haters in the series into the Iron Fist.

Miguel Caballero Rojo

Miguel was a hit in Tekken 7 and my personal main, if you couldn’t already tell by the number of times I’ve mentioned him before. I personally believe that his playstyle and personality are exactly what we need in this version of Tekken right now, and I have a few good reasons. Playstyle-wise, he is a poking monster able to lock you down with pokes and small stance frame traps that lead to huge damage, something that I believe is missing from Tekken 8. Miguel’s animations are also pretty entertaining, opting for an unconventional street brawl style that is unique amongst a sea of martial artists and magical demons.

Personality-wise, I believe we are in desperate need of more Jin haters. Tekken 8’s story mode focused on Jin Kazama’s redemption as a person, finally finding peace within himself and learning to embrace the devil within. This redemption arc comes right after Jin started World War 3, leading to the death of Miguel’s sister. I think the next step in the DLC story, if ever, should challenge Jin’s current beliefs and remind him that he hurt someone, that he hurt Miguel, and he hates him for it. This could provide a foil for Jin to atone for his sins, and more.

Craig Marduk

Marduk is a character that I dread every time I think of how he’d work with Tekken 8 mechanics, and that’s the exact reason why I want him in the game. Marduk is relentless, high-damage, and his fighting style is as visceral as it can get. Marduk chimes in with the vale tudo fighting style, focused on grappling and huge strikes that can bring any enemy to their knees. Every hit, from pokes to combos, feels like it hurts, and we need more big bodies in the series.

As for personality, I think it’s the perfect time to continue his storyline with Armor King and King. Armor King already came out to a lot of fanfare from the players, and putting him in the spotlight even more through Marduk's interactions might be enough to hype up the crowd. Not only that, but Marduk is just one of the scummiest characters on Earth, and I firmly believe that bringing him into any tournament is sure to turn you into a heel, making for great community storylines. Will Marduk ruin Tekken 8? Maybe. Will it be hype? Definitely.

Kazumi Mishima

Let’s face it, Tekken is in dire need of more badass women. The entire reason why Lidia and Reina worked so well was that they were badasses who took their fighting seriously. They wanted to beat you with honor, and I think that holds with Kazumi Mishima. I mean, you have to have that fire in you if you’re going to marry and kill resident volcano-thrower Heihachi Mishima. Let’s just hope she gets the same revival treatment.

Kazumi’s fighting style in Tekken 7 revolved around small pokes to lock down the opponent, coupled with great spacing and movement. Kazumi’s pokes felt lethal and methodical, the way she would tear you down bit by bit, and I want to see how that translates to Tekken 8’s more offensive system. Let’s also not forget that Kazumi has a demon paw along with an advancing stance, both of which could be translated well into uber offensive mechanics.

Billy Butcher

Yes, that’s right, the man who complains about guest characters in fighting games has a guest character in their DLC wishlist. Billy Butcher is the main antihero of a series called The Boys, a series so far away from any of the Tekken mythos that it just might work. I mean, if Mortal Kombat got Homelander, then I would love it if Butcher came to Tekken.

As one of the biggest haters in the series, his fighting style would revolve around more brutal street fight brawling to contrast all the anime fighters in the roster. All I’m saying is if they can make Negan work, they can make Butcher work.

All of this is just a wishlist, my dream team of characters that I believe could revitalize the tone and feel of Tekken 8’s gameplay. But ultimately, my dream team would be a capable balance team.
