Throughout its life, the Pokemon franchise has produced generations of mainline entries, all of which have something special that helps give them their identities. Such examples include Pokemon Emerald's Battle Frontier or the upcoming Pokemon Z-A's Wild and Battle Zones, as well as its returning Mega Evolutions.

While all of them are amazing in their own right, there is one that I believe is the best and that Game Freak should consider revisiting. It is a structure found in the 5th generation game, one that helped players realize how vast the scope of the world they're playing in covers: the Pokemon World Tournament building.

Some of you, especially fans of the more modern generation of the franchise, may wonder how it could possibly do such a thing, and why it deserves a revisit over something like the Battle Tree or Terrarium. Well, one good reason is that the Pokemon Black and White 2's World Tournament building allows you to take on Gym Leaders and Champions from different regions.

The 5th generation mainline entry already had many original and amazing trainers to take on, but after going through them all, there was always the desire for more. Well, the game gifted that with the Pokemon World Tournament building, and the amount of big names you can take on there was certainly daunting.

You could potentially find yourself in a battle against well-known characters like the cool and composed Cynthia or the ever-dangerous Red, and it was always an engaging time, as they showed why they're so well renowned. Also, the fact that numerous characters from different regions are in one structure really helps in making you feel that the worlds of all the games are interconnected, emphasizing why Game Freak should consider revisiting the Pokemon World Tournament in a future mainline entry.

If you think that's not enough of a reason for the structure to return, then perhaps the fact that it allowed for a multitude of battle formats will convince you. Aside from the standard one-versus-one fights, there were a variety of tournament styles that you could participate in.

You could take on Pokemon Champions and Gym Leaders in double, triple, and even rotation battles. Such options ensure that numerous different elements exist that can affect one's chances of victory, leaving an air of unpredictability that can get players excited.

There are even incentives for actually participating in the different tournaments, as winning them awards points that you can use to exchange for powerful items and TMs. The possibility of attaining such rewards helps induce the feeling that whatever time you spent is worthwhile, which is why many barely left the World Tournament building during Pokemon Black and White 2's post-game.

Nintendo and Game Freak certainly made something special with the Pokemon World Tournament, and it's a shame that it has yet to be revisited after so long. If the upcoming ninth-generation mainline entry has something similar to it, that would be amazing. However, if it doesn't, I'm hoping the structure returns in a future game, as I'm sure it would do a lot in growing fans' love for the franchise.
