Monster Hunter Wilds’ Seikrets are the best. These bipedal birds are great for taking us to our target hunts in a flash, as well as keeping our secondary weapon whenever we need it. Since Gogmazios’ release in Title Update 4, this adorable animal is our quick escape when things go sideways.
While most Wilds players loved the Seikret and its easy transportation, some Monster Hunter fans still prefer the Palamutes from Rise.
In a post from Monster Hunter’s subreddit, user u/manoffood started a discussion on which animal mount is the best. The user’s reasoning is that the Palamute has the most customizable kit of the two, and it actually helps hunters fight monsters compared to the Seikret, which just stands by from a distance.
The Palamute’s Strength in Monster Hunter Rise

In Monster Hunter Rise and Sunbreak, the Palamutes are heavily customizable. It’s essentially Capcom’s prototype of the Seikret, since it can also take players to their objective faster. Players can craft armors and weapons to tailor their experience. They can kit it with either blunt or severing weapons to optimize damage, and it all depends on which monster they’re aiming to hunt.
The Palamute was one of Rise’s best ideas. Players argued over which animal companion to bring, and half of the player base couldn’t agree on whether bringing two Palicos or two Palamutes was the better option, since many also preferred to use Palicos for their status buffs. In the end, there was no clear winner.
Seikrets Are Actually Encouraged in Wilds

In Wilds, Seikrets are indispensable. They’re not optional like the Palamutes, and they’re always with us whenever we go. They can store our secondary weapons, help us sharpen our main weapons while riding, and carry extra hunting supplies for a quick fix.
Mounted attacks are also at their best in Wilds, as players can simply hop off from their Seikret and quickly engage the monsters in stylish fashion.
In a perfect world, these Seikrets are perfect for Wilds. However, it has also drawn a couple of issues due to its iffy controls and inconsistent autopilot, which make movement frustrating. Capcom did try their best to fix the Seikrets tracking feature, but the problem still persists today.
The entire comment section from the Reddit post is still divided. Clearly, there are strengths and weaknesses for both mounts, but both are intended for their own game. Bringing the Seikret to Rise would feel awkward due to its grounded controls. It would also render the Wirebug useless. Likewise, bringing a Palamute to Wilds would frustrate players, as they couldn’t sharpen their weapons while riding or perform quick mounted attacks.
Overall, there are no winners, and that’s not a bad thing. At the very least, fans can agree that both mounts are adorable and we must protect them at all costs.
