Monster Hunter Wilds Performance Improves If You Own All DLC, It's Not A Joke

Monster Hunter Wilds’ performance dips may be caused by the game’s expansive DLC content, according to one Reddit user’s comprehensive discovery.

This shocking revelation was discovered by u/de_Tylmarande on the Monster Hunter subreddit. He began to notice that Wilds’ persistent performance issues are caused by the system’s aggressive checks that the game does to see which DLCs players own.

Along the way, the user created a mod that tricks the database into thinking he has all the DLCs unlocked. While it did not really “unlock” anything, this high-tech placebo was the workaround he needed to see if Wilds’ DLCs actually affect the game’s performance.

The results of his mod are surprisingly impressive. “Performance went through the roof,” the modder says, noting that even without a CPU boost in Balance mode, the game runs noticeably better than it does for someone who doesn’t own all the DLCs.

On his Legion 7i, equipped with a 3070Ti GPU, 32GB of RAM, and an i7-12800HX, the FPS jumped from 20 to 80. His experiment worked, and it seems Capcom has a lot of explaining to do after this unintentional mess-up.

The Reddit user refuses to give players the proper mod. This was merely his attempt at checking if his experiment worked, and it did. He believed that it might be at least one reason why the game’s performance is clunky on PC.

He has since sent his discovery to Capcom support and is awaiting further replies.

This isn’t actually user u/de_Tylmarande’s first rodeo when it comes to performance check-ups. According to his post, he was also one of the very few people who helped Capcom resolve Dragon’s Dogma 2’s performance issues.

This completely bizarre and unintentional development is a shock among the Monster Hunter community. Other users even joked that this is probably Capcom’s attempt at encouraging its players to “buy all their DLCs,” and remove the performance woes entirely. Some users are also worried that the more DLCs the game has, the worse the game will become due to its aggressive system checks.

Since Monster Hunter Wilds' release on February 28, 2025, it has been met with a flood of negative reviews, particularly regarding the optimization of its PC version. Players were all over the comment sections, forums, and even Steam’s review page to discuss why a AAA game like this would suffer from severe performance issues. The end result was a catastrophic mess that caused the game’s Steam overall rating to be “Overwhelmingly Negative” after a series of review bombs.

Capcom has since addressed the lingering performance issues on PC and other consoles. The latest Title Update 4 patched some of the game’s glaring issues, but the studio is not finished yet, as the upcoming February update will also fix more performance issues.

User u/de_Tylmarande’s discovery, on the other hand, could aid Capcom’s long-running optimization issues.
