Monster Hunter Wilds Expansion: 5 Iconic Monsters We Don’t Want Back

Monster Hunter’s diverse collection of unique monsters has always been its other selling point. Since its 2004 beginnings, we’ve had interesting designs from mutated fish-wyverns to angry gorillas resembling Goku from the Dragon Ball series. Over time, the franchise has expanded, and each entry has introduced more distinct monsters.

As Monster Hunter Wilds’ expansion draws near, there’s a lot of speculation as to which monster will return to the spotlight. Some want to see their fan-favorites return, including the elusive Gammoth or Elder Dragons like Dalamadur. While seeing returning monsters sounds good and all, their return would only fill an otherwise interesting roster with recycled hunts.

Here are five iconic monsters from the Monster Hunter series that don’t belong in Wilds’ expansion:

Kushala Daora

This flying Elder Dragon has had enough screentime in previous Monster Hunter entries. It was frustrating to fight in World due to its wind powers, forcing hunters to be patient rather than go aggressive. In Rise, it went through a slight rework, reducing its annoying tornadoes in favor of a more grounded battle.

Still, its addition to Wilds’ expansion is no longer needed. Even if Capcom decides to make its hunt less of a pushover, Kushala Daora’s return would be divisive among its players.

Almudron

A massive leviathan that debuted on Monster Hunter Rise. Covered in thick mud, this Wyvern of the Swamp will become a problem in Wilds’ expansion due to the game’s lack of mobility options. Without the Wirebug, hunting down an Almudron would be a frustrating experience as players need to climb from its mud-pillars and excessive waterblight.

Rajang

This angry monkey needs to be put on the bench for the time being. Rajang has already dominated endgame hunts in both Monster Hunter World and Rise, and hunting this hyper-aggressive simian has caused multiple carts to Hunters whenever it is around.

With Wilds’ grounded approach to combat, a monster like Rajang feels like fighting a superboss. With the addition of Wilds’ Focus System, taking him down would make the hunt trivial, as players would only need to lock on and hit exposed wounds. Ajarakan is already a great alternative for this furious monkey.

Uragaan / Radobaan

These two brute wyverns have no place in Wilds’ expansive roster of monsters. Uragaan and Radobaan are notorious for their endless rolling and massive bodies that cause tremors. Adding them in Wilds’ expansion would go against the game’s unique catalog of monsters, where every hunt is dynamic and not just ‘punch it until it dies.’

They’ve already served their purpose in previous entries of the series, and seeing them return feels like Capcom is running out of ideas for making more interesting Brute Wyverns.

Zinogre

One of the most iconic monsters in the franchise, Zinogre has never left the roster since its debut in Monster Hunter Portable 3rd. This thunder-coated fanged beast doesn’t need to return in Wilds’ expansion. Whether it’s a Guardian version or its Stygian subspecies, this monster has had its fair share of exposure, and it’s time lesser-known monsters take its place.

Capcom has the opportunity to bring back some of the older monsters from the roster in Monster Hunter Wilds’ upcoming expansion. These five just don’t feel like they earned their return. Monsters like the Lunagaron, Malzeno, or maybe even Agnaktor deserve a spot, too!
