Monster Hunter Wilds’ Gogmazios hunt was a cinematic masterpiece. It elevated the series’ strengths about slaying big monsters, turning it into epic 8-player raids where we give it everything we’ve got.
The expectations Monster Hunter Wilds’ Title Update 4 gave us are something else, and there’s no blaming that more and more players are looking forward to more ‘absolute cinema’ hunts that feel like being in the biggest hunts of their lives.
As the inevitable expansion arrives for Monster Hunter Wilds, here are five Elder Dragons that would greatly benefit from an 8-player raid similar to the Gogmazios hunt.
Dalamadur

This massive serpent-like Elder Dragon will be one for the books if Capcom captures the sheer scale of its power. Considered one of the biggest Elder Dragons in the series' history, it would take more than 8 players to take it down. We need all the help we can get, which means we can utilize a variety of anti-ER machinery, such as Dragonators and the same Railgun we used for Gogmazios.
An ideal Dalamadur hunt will have teams split into two teams of four. The first batch deals with the snake dragon’s other half, while the other deals with the other.
Jhen Mohran

Monster Hunter Wilds’ lack of a big boss in the Windward Plains is kind of disappointing. An Elder Dragon that can command the sands and attack ships from a distance with its massive body. In today’s standards, Jhen Mohran’s hunt in Monster Hunter 3 would be boring, as players were constantly shooting ballistae and dodging from its predictable attacks.
The 8-player raid would need to be split into two, the same as Dalamadur. This battle takes place in a massive open sea of sand, where our hunters board two massive sandboats. One team deals with Jhen Mohran’s port side, while the other team handles the starboard side.
Lao Shan Lung

This big Elder Dragon looks exactly like a dragon should. It’s massive, and its recognizable features are its exposed stomach. Lao Shan Lung is incredibly slow, but each of its attacks hits hard.
Being one of the first Elder Dragons we hunt in the classic games, this Elder Dragon doesn’t have any elemental capabilities. It only relies on its brute strength and massive size to take advantage of the situation.
Yama Tsukami

An Elder Dragon resembling that of a floating mountain. This would be the perfect monster to hunt as an 8-player raid. Players would have to scale this massive monster and take down each of its tentacles.
Given that Wilds already has skeletons for Cephalopods such as the Nu Udra and Xu Wu, a monster like Yama Tsukami would be a non-issue. Capcom only needs to make its arena cinematic.
Dire Miralis

One of the most terrifying Elder Dragons in Monster Hunter history. Dire Miralis is a massive dragon resembling a volcano. If you think Zorah Magdaros was a problem, you have not met this monster.
Bringing Dire Miralis back would be perfect for an 8-player raid. Players would have to swim through the waters using the same mechanics as the Lagiacrus battle. This would also be the perfect opportunity for Capcom to work on a new underwater system that sets the stage for future entries. Maybe Ceadeus could also arrive in the Forbidden Lands.
While there are plenty more big Elder Dragons in Monster Hunter’s history, these five are some of the series’ best not in terms of design, but also cinematic potential. Gogmazios was basically the tip of the iceberg for Capcom, and if the expansion does include more Elder Dragons, then we are in for a treat.
