Now that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is almost out, the long wait for Vol. 2 of the Metal Gear Solid Collection has begun, and many players are already eager to get their hands on a remastered version of one of PlayStation Portable’s best games: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.

But what about a full-fledged remake instead?

Stealth in Peace Walker.

Remaking Peace Walker from the ground up would be a monumental feat, but being one of the best-written and largest Metal Gear Solid titles, it deserves that kind of spotlight. Serving as a prequel to Ground Zeroes and, by extension, The Phantom Pain, it is likely to be a major highlight in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Collection Vol. 2, alongside titles like Metal Gear Solid Acid and Portable Ops.

We will almost certainly get a remaster with improved visuals and performance when Peace Walker arrives in the Vol. 2 Collection. Still, there is an even bigger opportunity if Konami chooses to remake this important entry with Unreal Engine 5. Imagine experiencing Naked Snake with enhanced CQC gameplay, similar to what we are getting in Snake Eater Delta.

Metal Gear.

One of the things I loved most about Peace Walker was how perfectly it suited portable gaming, especially with its graphic novel-inspired cutscenes that even had minor interactivity. Preserving this for the remaster would not be surprising, but I would love to see it expanded upon if a remake ever happens.

Another major highlight for me was how much Peace Walker felt like a little mercenary wonderland. Naked Snake’s Mother Base, along with his crew of freelancers, truly felt like home when I played it back in the early 2010s. While it did not have the same level of immersion or interactivity as the Mother Base in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, it still managed to make me feel like a real leader as I navigated menus, listened to audio tapes, fought a Tigrex, and built my own Metal Gear. It was an incredible 80-hour experience I could not put down.

Master the basics of CQC.

All the more reason I feel a remake is worth pursuing. Konami should not feel constrained about rebuilding a classic from the ground up anymore, especially since Snake Eater Delta has already proven to be a resounding success, with critics universally praising the game.

If Konami applies the same approach to Peace Walker, maintaining its essence one-to-one just as they did with Snake Eater Delta, it would be an instant selling point for me. Also, I would love to see Hot Coldman in action again.
