Marvel Rivals' Switch 2 Port Needs to Have Its Own Separate Ranked Mode

Marvel Rivals Switch 2

Marvel Rivals is one of the most popular hero shooters ever to exist, so it would be reasonable to expect it to be playable on just about every platform. That said, the Switch 2 is yet to have its own version of the game, and while there's no telling when or if NetEase Games will provide it, there is at least a good likelihood that Nintendo fans will be able to enjoy it on their next-generation system.

With that lingering possibility, one has to wonder how Marvel Rivals for the Switch 2 would affect the overall console matchmaking. Given what Nintendo's system has over the others, it may be wise for NetEase Games to provide it with its own separate ranked mode, assuming it will ever get its own version of the game.

For those wondering why that should be the case, it is due to a particular feature of the Joy-Cons: their ability to be used as a mouse. It provides Switch 2 players with such a huge advantage that it would ruin the balance of Marvel Rivals' matchmaking on console, and there will undoubtedly be many complaints regarding the matter.

The reason why ranked matches between Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 versions of the game are fair is that they're played on controllers, meaning they share the same advantages and disadvantages when it comes to movement and aiming. The same cannot be said if the Switch 2 were to join the fray, as the Joy-Con mouse feature will allow players on the Nintendo system to have a degree of control similar to those who play the game on PC.

So if the Switch 2 version of Marvel Rivals were to share a ranked mode with other consoles, there would be a clear disparity during matches, leading to many being unhappy with the experience. If allowed, it may even lead players to quit ranked matchmaking altogether, which is detrimental to the game's growth and success.

The best thing that NetEase Games can do to avoid such a thing from happening is by introducing a Marvel Rivals Switch 2 ranked mode that's separate from the other consoles. While not the most ideal move, as those who play the game on Nintendo's console will be limited to whom they can be paired against, it at least ensures fairness regarding ranked matchmaking.

NetEase Games could still allow cross-platform play between all consoles, but likely only limit it to Quickplay mode. At least with that, there's no risk of losing one rank, meaning people can play and enjoy with whoever, regardless of the advantages or disadvantages of the platform they're playing on.

If the Joy-Cons didn't have the mouse feature, then the Switch 2 could have easily joined in on the Marvel Rivals cross-platform ranked matchmaking fun. Alas, that isn't the case, meaning that the console and its competitive scene must be kept separate from the others. If or when the game is playable on Nintendo's system, hopefully, NetEase Games will find a way to let it share the ranked mode with the other non-PC platforms fairly. Until then, we'll just have to wait and see.
