- Quick Answer: There is currently no official Kameo reboot in development; however, fans are calling for a revival of the Elemental Warrior franchise for modern Xbox consoles.
Nostalgia is one of the strongest selling points and a strategy media companies can rely on, no matter when it is executed. Things can be at an all-time high and feel like a celebration, or the overall stock could be plummeting, and a well-timed reset feels like a fresh start, going back to basics.
That’s because we consume what’s familiar, and fundamentals remind us of a better time, whilst publishers silently attach a brand-new updated price tag to go along with it. This is the formula to turn old projects into new revenue.
But, you know, all this reboot talk about Marathon's 30+ year return or Fable’s first open world entry got me thinking: if anything can be brought back from the dead, I might as well throw my wishful coin into the fountain while I can. Please, video game gods, I beg of you to bring back Kameo.

Kameo: Elements of Power was an Xbox 360 release developed by Rareware in response to the fantastical aesthetic of the new millennium and the lack of a strong candidate to compete with the grittier video game mascots like Master Chief and Kratos in the teenage demographic.
After smashing success to infiltrate the younger audience with Nintendo 64’s Banjo-Kazooie, Rare wanted a follow-up in the high-fantasy genre in the same console generation, only to be plagued by delays until ultimately releasing on Microsoft’s second system on November 22, 2005, as a launch title.
The release follows the story of Princess Kameo, successor to the magical Element of Power, and her adventure to restore order to her home as the kingdom collapses at the hands of evil Troll King Thorn, who kidnaps the protagonist’s family with the help of her jealous sister, Kalus.
This power allows Kameo to transform into Elemental Warriors like dragons, ice gorillas, boxing plants, and more to combat Thorn’s goons and minions and rescue her family to free the enchanted kingdom once and for all.

Kameo sales are estimated at over 700,000 to 1 million copies, a solid performance for a debut launch title without a strong fanbase. Its short 10-hour campaign, moderate difficulty, and diverse localization allowed it to build a niche cult following in the years that followed, leading to the development of a sequel.
Unfortunately, Kameo 2 was later canceled as Microsoft shifted its focus to other in-house projects. The sequel was speculated to feature more mature and darker tones and a realistic graphic style, both for characters and their magical world.
The desperation for a smash success robbed fans of a modern visit and updated peak at Kameo’s adventures, and now is a good time as any to bring the franchise back. Bringing the best of both worlds together, a reboot to the 20-year-old title would spark some much-needed life into the Xbox exclusive catalogue.

Its high-fantasy themes and updated graphics would immediately compete with high-calibre franchises, addressing the community’s desire for a single-player campaign worthy of their time and attention while winking at long-time believers with NPC dialogue and expanded lore from the original entry.
A reboot to a dated title two decades after the fact catches eyes, appeals to expecting audiences, and catches headlines that could send Microsoft into a deep dive of solo adventure game development that should set them off fairly well for the upcoming generation of consoles.
Much like Zelda – allegedly a huge inspiration to the original video game – Kameo would become a non-playable protagonist as the reboot could focus on her reign as Queen rather than a Princess, and how her predecessor, the user’s customizable character, will now hold the Power of the Elements to rescue the rescuer, coming full circle after 21 years.
While it’s definitely a niche interest that lives in a bubble, there are some reboots that don't make sense whatsoever until they're greenlit. If we ever catch a glimpse of the Wotnot in the near future, I hope to see you come back so you can read: “I told you so.” Or this is your first time here, and it’s already official, then “you heard it here first.” You know, either or... Kay-mee-oh, Kah-meh-oh.
