Life is Strange: Reunion is officially revealed, bringing the series’ iconic character Chloe Price back into the fold.

Note: This article contains spoilers for Life Is Strange: Double Exposure and the original Life Is Strange.

Serving as a direct sequel to Life is Strange: Double Exposure, it sees the return of Max Caulfield and her time-bending powers as she tries to make sense of what fate is soon to befall her life in Caledon University.

After nearly a decade’s absence, Chloe Price is back, Max’s partner in time in the original game. Together, their Reunion sparks new mysteries into the story, pushing both characters to confront their past and alternate selves in a dramatic supernatural adventure.

While Chloe Price’s return is a major headliner for all Life is Strange fans, some of its community aren’t all that convinced after Deck Nine’s lukewarm reception of Double Exposure. Other fans feel relieved by her comeback, considering they’ve been asking for a much-needed reunion for the past 10 years.

Reunion is the ideal game to play if you were already invested in Double Exposure’s cliffhanger of an ending. After that Avengers-esque finale, it was clear that a sequel was in the works. This upcoming chapter serves as Max and Chloe’s ultimate conclusion to their storyline, and what results at the end may or may not be heartbreaking for Pricefield fans.

Those who find Double Exposure a total disaster, however, might have to hold off until they are well-informed about its strengths and weaknesses before its launch. While it’s still too early to tell if Reunion will deliver fan expectations, it’s always best to exercise caution. After all, Double Exposure was the series at its weakest with repetitive story beats and weak writing.

As a longtime fan, I’ve argued that bringing Chloe back might not fix the series’ underlying issues, as the series hasn’t been at its best after its original creators, DontNod, officially divested from the franchise. Hopefully, Deck Nine has learned from player feedback in Double Exposure and makes Reunion a fantastic send-off for both fan-favorite characters.

Apart from the return of Max and Chloe, Reunion’s slew of new features acts as a culmination of the series’ best parts. For the first time in series history, a dual-protagonist setup will be present in the game. This allows players to control Max and Chloe in select sequences. Max’s gameplay involves her twisting time again, whereas Chloe gathers intel using backtalk, a mechanic that was first introduced in Before the Storm.

Choices will once again remain key to its overall narrative. It will remember all the past decisions players made in their time in Arcadia Bay and Blackwell Academy through a custom-choice menu. This opens new doors for multiple branching dialogues, allowing players to tweak their own choices, offering unique results depending on which major decisions they’ve made 10 years ago.

But that’s not all; another major thing in this sequel is how Deck Nine acknowledges the first game’s multiple endings. All endings are considered canon. Players are confused, considering they essentially made a tough decision at the end of Life is Strange 1. Apparently, after the events of Double Exposure, Max inadvertently caused Chloe’s return after merging both timelines to save Safi. As a result, Chloe has memories of either the Bay or Bae ending. This makes her return all the more bizarre.

Unfortunately for series fans, Ashley Burch, the original voice behind Chloe Price, doesn’t reprise her role. Instead, Rhianna DeVries, who voiced her in Before the Storm, will return to take her place.

As of now, whether Life is Strange: Reunion becomes a triumphant send-off or another missed opportunity for Deck Nine, at least Max and Chloe got their much-needed reconnection, for better or worse.

Life is Strange: Reunion is set to release this March 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
