Marvel Rivals is showing signs of decline after the game has officially reached its tenth month with Season 4.
According to Steam Charts, player count has dropped significantly every month, with an average of 65,000 players playing the game for the last 30 days. It’s a major player drop compared to its previous months, where players would get an average of over 100,000 players from its launch day in December 2024 up to May 2025.

Now, Marvel Rivals is seeing a decrease in player count after the May 2025 patch, which brought in the iconic Emma Frost and the Krakoa Map. The months that followed has seen a 15-20% reduction in playercount, with June 2025 averaging at 80,000 players, which was the month where the Strategist Ultron came out. Fortunately, the playercount on Steam did spike by an extra 3% with the July 2025 update, the month where Jean Grey’s Phoenix entered the roster as a Duelist.
After July 2025, things aren’t looking too good. August had 77,000 players on average, and it rapidly declined in September with 64,000 players. The game went on from a total peak player count of 600,000+ players to 130,000+ in 10 months. The lowest playercount ever recorded on Steam Charts is just last week, where 30,000 players are active. While this may not be very alarming for the community and NetEase, it heralds a new age of Marvel Rivals as it has found its loyal community still playing the game.

There are multiple reasons why the game suffered a massive decline. For starters, it’s a pretty normal thing to happen when it comes to live-service games. Fads come and go, and Marvel Rivals’ peak popularity is over. Most players simply move on to the next big game on the pipeline, and with 2025 having a great selection of games, it’s hard not to feel distracted from all the big games this year.
Another reason why some players drop the game is due to its egregious matchmaking issues, which to this day, is still frustrating for players in higher-elo. The coinflip matches and the fabled “EOMM” conversations are still all over Marvel Rivals forums, especially with its subreddit. Other player complaints were also targeted to its unbalanced roster, where Duelists are taking the spotlight rather than important roles like Vanguards and Strategists. Luckily, Angela seems to remedy it, but she’s not as effective as many people would hope.
It’s also worth noting that the data shown is only for Steam and not for other consoles like PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and the newly added PlayStation 4 support.

As of October 2025, Marvel Rivals has reached a steady player count of 60-80,000 players every day, and it would occasionally rank in Steam's Top 10 games. The numbers would also fluctuate during a new hero release like Angela in Season 4, where it saw a 1% gain in numbers. However, it still couldn’t hold a candle to the game’s massive player count 8 months ago.
With Daredevil coming this October 10 for Season 4.5, we should be getting more signs if the game’s honeymoon phase is over, or if it still has a continuous growth that could rival live-service giants like Fortnite.
