I’ll Never Play Overwatch 2, but This Persona Crossover Is Tempting Me

Tracer and Joker

Overwatch 2 is a game I never showed any interest in, despite having some of the hottest characters in gaming and some fun lore. A lot of my disinterest comes from how Blizzard doesn’t seem to respect its fanbase, as their canceled Hero Mode proves. While the game’s reputation has seemingly improved over time, there still isn’t enough to draw me back in.

But man, that new Persona 5 crossover is very tempting.

I am a huge fan of the Persona games, to the point that I literally bought Persona 5 Royal for the third time on Steam. My passion for Atlus’ best-selling franchise might actually be an obsession, so this crossover isn’t good for me or my wallet. Personally, I doubt that this hero shooter will get its claws on me with this crossover, but I’m only saying this because the skins haven’t been shown yet.

Last Surprise

The crossover shouldn’t be a huge surprise since Overwatch 2 has been doing them with a ton of properties lately. We’ve seen collaborations with My Hero Academia and Transformers, so this one with Atlus shouldn’t be surprising. However, as a fan of the franchise, it’s still weird seeing this crossover with a hero shooter, of all things.

Persona 5 is no stranger to crossovers, as the game has been in various mobile collabs. Joker has also appeared in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the quintessential crossover game, so this was far from a surprise. It’s still really cool seeing this franchise in the hero shooter, and I’m pretty curious about the skins coming.

Not Enough

While the Persona crossover in Overwatch 2 is cool, there’s still not a lot about the game that has my interest. Despite having a really cool cast of characters, this is an FPS game, so I can’t really admire my chosen hero or their skin. They did introduce a new mode that adds a third-person perspective, but it’s clear that the main game is intended for FPS fans.

Compare this to Marvel Rivals, which has an endless amount of source material to pull from and is already a third-person shooter, and I’m inclined to stay with this game. Sure, Overwatch 2 has Tracer, but Rivals has Emma Frost and Squirrel Girl, so that’s a no-contest. Psylocke and Dagger are also in the game, making it a huge win for Marvel’s hero shooter overall.

Plus, if I want to play Persona 5 again, I already have multiple copies of the game. Maybe the skins will look cool, but unless they’re letting me use Makoto Nijima in third-person, this game has no chance with me.
