The month of October is an exciting time for many Nintendo Switch 2 owners and fans of the Pokemon franchise, as it's when the 9th generation mainline entry, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, is set to be released. It is a game that people have waited quite a significant amount of time for, so it's no surprise that there's much anticipation surrounding it.
Aside from all the excitement, the game has also been subject to many expectations, and that's due to its premise of returning to the Kalos region and a redeveloped Lumiose City. Given that Pokemon Legends: Z-A's premise is based on the sixth-generation mainline entry, fans expect it to take a lot of ideas from its predecessor and improve upon them.
The game is certainly doing that, as it has announced the return of Mega Evolutions and a few popular characters with updated looks, but I'm hoping a few more will come as a surprise. One that I really want to see is a facility from Pokemon X and Y, which was regarded as that game's Battle Tower: the Battle Maison.
In it, players could take on difficult trainers in fights of different formats, and while it was great, it felt sorely lacking. All you did there was go from one battle to the next, and as tough and engaging as they were, you were still essentially doing the same thing over and over.

If Pokemon Legends: Z-A decides to bring the facility back, it would be the game's opportunity to improve it, making it more interesting and better than ever. Some of you may wonder how it would go about in doing so, and I would say that it can take pages from Pokemon Emerald and Platinum's Battle Frontier.
Longtime fans of the Pokemon franchise have fond memories of the Battle Frontier, as not only did it consist of the toughest battles, but it also had gimmicks that made them more fun. Good examples would be navigating through a dark maze or having no control over what your Pokemon do, which made for many exciting and enjoyable times.
A returning Battle Maison could have such gimmicks, and I'd say that it may even have new and possibly even better ones. This is due to the Pokemon Legends: Z-A real-time battle system, as it can implement ideas that would not have been possible with turn-based gameplay.
Making the Battle Maison more like the Battle Frontier can also save it from its other huge issue: how forgettable the Chatelaines were. While they offered challenging fights and had their own quirks, they still left much to be desired. If they had their own gimmicks, fans would likely care about them more, and they'd be more memorable.

If Nintendo and the Pokemon Studio did decide to make the Battle Maison return for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, then I'm hoping they made those improvements. Because if it does come back but remains the same as it was, many will likely be disappointed, given the loss of the opportunity.
