Helldivers 2's Into the Unjust update has certainly exceeded the expectations of fans. Many are enjoying and glossing over the new cave systems that came with the latest patch, and while that's great, what really caught people's attention is what Arrowhead Game Studios has done to the Terminids.
The bug-like threat has become ever more menacing than before, with stronger variants of already powerful units and a few that were never before seen making their way into the galactic war. The faction has certainly received a lot of love from the developer, but the update it has received raises one particular question: When will the Automatons get something similar?
Out of the major participants in the game's galactic war, the robotic threat could use its own Into the Unjust update. But why should the faction be given one? Well, it's due to a few important reasons, ones that could push Arrowhead Game Studios to provide it if the developer highly considers them.
1. The Other Two Factions Have Already Had Their Time to Shine

The game has three major enemy factions, but it seems like only two of them have truly been given the chance to show why they're such huge threats. The Illuminate had theirs during the Heart of Democracy event, invading Super Earth and showing their new methods of dealing with humanity. The Terminids now have something similar due to the latest update, forcing players to face their new units in much tighter environments to prevent them from becoming too big a threat to deal with.
The Automatons have yet to receive something similar, even though the faction has been there since the game's release. It has received a few updates here and there, but nothing compared to the spotlight-shining events of the Terminids and Illuminate. This makes it clear that the robotic threat should be next in line to receive a major update that puts them front and center, and hopefully, they'll get it soon.
2. In the Game’s Current State, the Automatons Don’t Feel Like a Threat
.webp?width=700&quality=10&blur=40)
With the Terminids becoming stronger than ever, it feels as if the Automatons are losing significance as a major player in the galactic war. Even with powerful units like the flying Hulks, War Striders, and Gunships, it seems that players are more focused on the danger the other two factions bring. This is because the other two factions have proven that they actually have a good chance of wiping out humanity, something that the robotic threat has yet to do.
While the Automatons won't fade into obscurity, given how they're still a constant presence in the galactic war, they still need to show that they can keep up with the Illuminate and Teriminds, lest they actually be ignored by players. By giving them their own major update, it prevents that from happening and ensures Helldivers 2's faction balance in terms of the threat level that each one possesses.
3. The Automatons Still Feel Like a Question Mark Compared to the Other Two Factions
.webp?width=700&quality=10&blur=40)
Out of the three factions, the Automatons are the enemy that players know the least about. Information such as where they came from and how they're related to the Cyborgs of the first galactic war is unclear, and it's a shame, as they have the potential to become one of the most interesting things about the game.
If Arrowhead Game Studios wants to ensure that Automatons remain relevant, especially to Helldivers 2's new Xbox recruits, then the developer will want to build more on their lore. Providing them with something similar to the Into the Unjust update will certainly help with that, as it can be used to create a proper backstory on how they came to be, or at least expand their role in the narrative to raise their popularity with fans.
4. Helldivers 2 Could Use More Things to Help Remain Relevant

While Helldivers 2 is very popular at the moment, especially with the latest update and the surge of Xbox players, the wave of excitement it's currently experiencing will eventually die down. At some point, the game will need to do something to remain relevant, and an Automaton-related major event can help do just that.
By giving the robotic threat the spotlight, it could lead to the development of many ideas that fans can look forward to. The faction has a lot of untapped potential, especially regarding its presence in the galactic war, and Arrowhead Game Studios can take advantage of that to provide more interesting content to Helldivers 2 and help it stay relevant.
As of now, the Automatons aren't that much of a threat compared to the Terminids and Illuminate, but hopefully, Arrowhead Game Studios will change that by giving them their well-deserved major update in the future. Helldivers 2 can only stand to benefit from the move, which makes the chances of it happening very likely, and why fans should look forward to it.
