Halo: Campaign Evolved will introduce significant changes to the original and timeless CE campaign, including three brand-new missions, bringing the total to 13 missions.
Halo Studios confirmed the addition of more content during the full reveal of Campaign Evolved. In order not to disturb the pristine pacing of the original, which the developers are trying to maintain intact, these missions will act as a prequel story between Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson.
Little more than that is known about them. Will they be bonus content, not actually part of the campaign? Will players have to go through these new prequel missions to then move on to the original Combat Evolved story? Will they be tacked on to the campaign, but with the ability to skip them? Only time will tell.
The story of CE kicks off mid-conflict between the human race and the Covenant. Following the events of Halo Reach and the eventual escape of the Pillar of Autumn, there's plenty of room to explore a mini Chief and Johnson story prior to the original Combat Evolved story.
It's clear that Halo Studios doesn't want to deliver a subpar product, which is why Campaign Evolved is exactly that, a reinvention of the single-player portion of the original Halo, albeit with couch and online co-op play available. No multiplayer is a tough decision, but it doesn't necessarily mean they could be planning to do something with it down the line.
