GTA 5 Originally Planned 10+ Story DLCs with 5 Major Expansions

We thought the GTA 5 story was already massive, right? Turns out, we were supposed to get way more. Rockstar Games had originally mapped out a sprawling post-launch roadmap for GTA 5, featuring over 10+ story DLCs and five full-blown expansions that would've taken us from North Yankton to Liberty City, and even through alien and zombie invasions.

Crazy ideas like Agent Trevor, a zombie mode, alien encounters, a LibertyV comeback, a North Yankton prologue, and more were among the canceled expansions. Each one included fresh missions, maps, and chaos. These were actual proposals that were never given the opportunity to be demonstrated, not just a rumor.

GTA 5 10+ Story DLCs with 5 Major Expansions

Here’s a full breakdown of all the scrapped GTA 5 story DLCs and what could’ve been an entirely different GTA experience.

1. Agent Trevor - Expansion for GTA 5

Of all the cancelled GTA 5 story DLCs, Agent Trevor (aka the Clifford Episode) got the furthest. Actor Steven Ogg confirmed he recorded performance work for it before Rockstar pulled the plug.

In this DLC, Trevor was recruited by the IAA to become a chaotic secret agent tracking down the rogue AI Clifford, a storyline later recycled in GTA Online’s Doomsday Heist.

Rockstar once said it would be on par with The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, offering 12–20 hours of solo gameplay. It was set to release alongside the PC version of GTA 5.

The DLC was supposed to have:

  • 38 new story missions
  • Cameos from Ron, Wade, Paperman, and Agent 14 (who was originally a story-mode character)
  • 14 Stranger & Freaks missions for 4 new characters
  • 12 assassination contracts (merged from a separate DLC)
  • A casino heist that predated GTA Online’s Diamond Casino
  • New weapons: Crossbow and Harpoon Gun
  • Even horses as rideable animals

Unfortunately, it was canceled due to Rockstar shifting focus to Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA Online. But make no mistake, Agent Trevor was the DLC that almost changed everything.

2. Zombie Apocalypse - Expansion for GTA 5

Zombie Apocalypse - Expansion for GTA 5

Another canceled GTA 5 story DLC was the Zombie Apocalypse, also known as the Norman Episode. This one looked like Rockstar’s take on Undead Nightmare, set in Los Santos after Ending A, meaning Trevor was dead, and the world was about to get way worse.

Michael, Amanda, and Jimmy were going to be the playable characters, surviving a full-blown zombie outbreak. Rockstar planned a major overhaul of Los Santos—walled-off zones, boarded-up buildings, apocalyptic visuals, and survivor-based gameplay.

Data miners found 18 story missions, which included scavenging for food, medicine, and ammo, helping survivors, and ending with a final mission to find a cure.

Some GTA Online content, like Arena War’s apocalypse vehicles and even the ruined Sandy Shores gas station, might have originally come from this scrapped DLC. And GTA Online’s recent zombie survival mode may have reused some of its assets.

Sadly, this survival horror spin on GTA 5 was canned before it ever saw daylight. But it would’ve been a wild, gritty shift in tone and a worthy follow-up to Red Dead’s undead legacy.

3. Alien Invasion - Expansion for GTA 5

Alien Invasion - Expansion for GTA 5 Story DLCs

Out of all the canceled GTA 5 story DLCs, the Alien Invasion Episode is the biggest mystery. It was believed to be planned after the scrapped Zombie Apocalypse DLC—but like the others, it was quietly shelved when Rockstar shifted focus to GTA Online and Red Dead Redemption 2.

There are no missions or leaked sequences, only mentions in development files and a few Easter eggs, such as the Mount Chiliad UFO mural. That's all we have.

But what if Rockstar had gone full sci-fi? Imagine Trevor, Michael, and Franklin confronting UFOs over Los Santos, invading Area 69, or uncovering alien technology with Agent 14. It could've been insane.

It never happened, but the Alien Invasion DLC remains one of GTA 5's most intriguing what-could-have-been scenarios.

4. LibertyV - Expansion for GTA 5

LibertyV - Expansion for GTA 5 Story DLCs

One of the more mysterious scrapped projects tied to GTA 5 story DLCs is the LibertyV expansion—a plan to bring Liberty City into GTA 5’s engine.

Development reportedly took place around 2014–2015, and evidence of its existence surfaced when a Rockstar artist’s portfolio briefly showed images of Liberty City running in GTA 5’s engine. The pictures were later removed, but fans managed to save them before this.

It's not clear if LibertyV was meant to be part of a single-player DLC or for GTA Online, but considering the timeline, it's most likely that it was meant for GTA Online content, as Rockstar has moved away from story expansions.

No missions, scripts, or additional data were ever shared.

North Yankton - The Canceled Prologue Expansion for GTA 5 Story DLCs

The Prologue DLC, also referred to as the North Yankton Expansion, was one of the early planned GTA 5 story DLCs that never got off the ground. It was intended to bring players back to North Yankton, expanding on the events of the game’s prologue and exploring more of Michael, Trevor, and Brad’s early backstory.

No actual mission data or scripts have surfaced. The only trace in the game files is a set of unused North Yankton police models, suggesting development may have never progressed beyond the planning stage.

Images circulating online are fan-made concepts—no official assets were ever released.

Assassination Pack - Franklin’s Scrapped DLC Missions GTA 5

Back in 2014, Rockstar teased “New Assassination and Flight School missions for Story Mode,” hinting at fresh single-player content for GTA 5. Among the canceled GTA 5 story DLCs was the Assassination Pack, featuring 12 assassination missions that Franklin would have tackled.

These missions were discovered in game files and included varied targets and locations, such as:

  • Police Station Assassination (Hawick payphone)
  • Cable Car Kill (Paleto Bay)
  • Subway Sacrifice (near Strawberry car wash)
  • Drugs Kill (Blaine County)
  • Helicopter Takedown (near Grapeseed)
  • …and more, with some mission start locations still missing from files.

Mid-development, Rockstar incorporated these assassination missions into the larger Agent Trevor expansion, which was also canceled.

Though these missions were never released in single-player, they provide another dimension to the story of Rockstar's ambitious but ultimately abandoned ambitions for GTA 5.

7. Flight School Pack - Story Mode DLC to GTA Online Feature

The Flight School Pack was originally planned as part of single-player GTA 5 story DLCs, teased alongside the assassination missions back in 2014.

Rockstar intended to add new airplanes and training courses to the Flight School for story mode players to master their piloting skills.

However, instead of launching as story DLC, these features were repurposed and released as part of GTA Online’s Flight

School update, giving players fresh aerial challenges in multiplayer.

8. Relationships Pack

Relationships Pack - GTA 5 story DLCs

The Relationships Pack is among the mysterious canceled GTA 5 story DLCs with no leftover files or details available. It was rumored to possibly introduce a new dating mechanic, maybe focused on Franklin, but that’s purely speculation since Rockstar never revealed official info.

At some point, this idea was apparently shifted toward a GTA Online update, but it never actually released. So for now, the Relationships Pack remains a ghost in GTA 5’s DLC history.

9. Manhunt Pack

The Manhunt Pack is another canceled GTA 5 story DLC with no known missions or assets.

Maybe this would have included cosmetics inspired by Rockstar’s Manhunt series, as the Manhunt-themed masks have appeared in GTA Online’s Last Team Standing update.

Beyond that, details remain a mystery.

10. High Res Textures Pack

The High Res Textures Pack is another canceled GTA 5 story DLC meant exclusively for PC players. It aimed to enhance the game’s visuals by improving texture resolution across Los Santos.

Unfortunately, details are super limited; no one knows exactly how far Rockstar got with it or how big the upgrade would’ve been. But this pack shows Rockstar’s early plan to give the PC version some exclusive love that ultimately never happened.

11. The Final Mystery

The Final Mystery - GTA 5 Story DLCs

For years, the Mount Chiliad Mural had players hunting for hidden secrets in GTA 5 story DLCs, but the truth was simpler than most thought.

The UFO icon represented the Alien Invasion Episode, the cracked egg symbolized Michael’s fate in the Zombie Apocalypse DLC, and the jetpack stood for the Agent Trevor expansion.

The smaller icons? They likely pointed to the many smaller planned story packs that were all eventually scrapped.

What seemed like a massive, ongoing mystery was actually Rockstar’s way of teasing content that was quietly canceled long ago, ending a decade of speculation with an internal solution that never made it into the game.

And that’s a wrap on the GTA 5 story DLCs that were cancelled. While these epic expansions got scrapped, their ideas still live on in GTA Online’s biggest updates.
