Deadpool’s Flexible Kit Could Change Marvel Rivals Forever

Marvel Rivals’ Deadpool is here, and he’s shaping up to be a must-pick for players who prefer to adjust depending on teamfights. His fourth-wall-breaking abilities are the centerpiece of his kit, and he’s not easy to learn. Once players master him, he could potentially ruin the game’s overall balance in weird ways.

From the get-go, we already know Deadpool is not constrained to the rules of Marvel Rivals. Being the first hero to handle all three roles sounds like a daunting task, but you’ve got to hand it to the Merc-with-a-Mouth to do that kind of job.

His kit is overly reliant on game sense, slowly expanding depending on which role is required in a lobby. A good Deadpool would know when to switch between Vanguard, Duelist, or Strategist. With Deadpool’s D&D-like skill book, he’s adaptable enough to warrant his usefulness, but players who jump straight to him without proper practice could ruin matches.

What makes Deadpool all the more dangerous is that he can be a counterpick for every hero in the game. His varied kit makes him the pseudo-seventh hero in a team, as he can quickly fill roles needed. If the enemy team is doing too much damage, a Deadpool main would have to adjust their playstyle by serving as the game’s third Vanguard. This is also the case for being the third (or fourth) Duelist and Strategist in a team comp. He is the primary solution for a team with a general lack of synergy, and he could possibly be a meta pick from here on out.

Unlike Rogue’s ability absorption mechanic, Deadpool can fill any role he wants to be. He doesn’t need to borrow other abilities from other heroes. This makes counterpicking more dynamic in Season 6.

Future Marvel Rivals Heroes Could Follow Blueprint

It’s unclear if NetEase could adopt his blueprint in future heroes since he’s the only Marvel character who can break the fourth wall. His kit makes the most sense due to his personality.

Future Marvel Rivals heroes might not share Deadpool’s level of complexity, but NetEase could solve the lingering “Role” issue by adding characters who are true wild cards. They’ve already done the same with Strategists when Gambit came out, so a future hero with multiple interchangeable roles can set the stage for more dynamic teamfights.

Deadpool’s addition to the game could also put all other heroes to shame, as he’s turned himself into a jack-of-all-trades kind of character that the game really needs. This resolves issues about the game’s lack of Vanguards and Strategists if NetEase could stick to this hero design in future seasons. Considering NetEase plans to release something “big” to Rivals this year, maybe that’s the kind of direction they are going for.

Deadpool launches this January 16 for Marvel Rivals’ Season 6. Whether he will break the meta or not, his dynamic role is exactly the kind Marvel Rivals needs right now.
