ARC Raiders continues to break its own records on Steam week after week, showing no signs of slowing down. Embark’s extraction shooter is just TOO good not to talk about, and word of mouth has definitely caused the game’s increase in player base.
I might even be partly responsible for its success.
Before you ask, “Who is this guy anyway?” I am not solely responsible for the success of ARC Raiders. I’m simply part of a growing wave of players who keep talking about the game to friends, resulting in a chain of indirect “enlistments” I’ve proudly orchestrated to them since launch.

Currently, ARC Raiders has over 460,000 all-time players on Steam, and it's unclear how many players are around on PlayStation 5 and Xbox consoles. Given that the game has sold over 2.5 million copies since launch, it’s safe to say that there are a LOT of players going Topside, whether they’re clashing with other players in PvP or taking down Arcs together.
Of course, I am just one fan writing an op-ed about ARC Raiders. Content creators like Shroud have also played a pivotal role in the game’s success. He even rallied his followers to make this Game of the Year, encouraging them to vote for it over Sandfall Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. It is subject to debate, but that statement alone has helped ARC Raiders gain traction even with casual players.
Former Destiny 2 fans were also interested in ARC Raiders’ gameplay loop. Both share the same rinse-and-repeat formula, but it has been improved here with its seamless blend of PvP and PvE into one unified experience. Popular Destiny 2 content creators like Aztecross have been playing since its launch, drawing in Bungie fans who were disappointed by Marathon’s fiasco.

Even content creators who have never tried an extraction shooter game, like Maximillian_DOOD, have joined in on the fun. He’s been impressed by the game’s formula, praising its dynamic encounters with enemy AI and other players. He had so much fun that he had to invite his entire YoVideoGames crew over and play together. Max, being popular among the fighting game and Final Fantasy communities, has helped bring even more diverse players into the fold.
What drives ARC Raiders’ consistent growth? There are many factors, but word of mouth is definitely one of the biggest reasons why this game continues to grow every week. We might see an increase when the holiday season arrives, especially since the game is reasonably priced at $40.

Since its launch on October 30, ARC Raiders has had a small and loyal community of 260,000 players. These were the same people who had a blast playing through the game’s Server Slam event two weeks before its release. Safe to say that those who enjoyed the beta have already pre-ordered their copies, and they’ve been inviting their other friends ever since to form duos and squads.
As of writing, I’m still recruiting a few more friends to join ARC Raiders’ cause, convincing them to grab their copy so we can team up and take down Rocketeers and Bastions together.
