Quick Answer: Pokemon Legends: Z-A, even with the release of its DLC, still has missing features that players are looking for, like faster traversal mechanics and breeding.

It has been over 3 months since the release of Pokemon Legends: Z-A and almost 2 months since the release of its DLC, Mega Dimension, and though the game has received much-needed additional content, some players can't help but feel that there are still features or mechanics that remain sorely missed.

The base game, in some ways, was already lacking content, so the DLC should've been the way to address player concerns, but alas, there are still things that fans long for to this day, and that's what we are here to discuss.

What Features Are Still Missing in Pokemon Legends: Z-A?

There are still a lot of mechanics in the game that we have enjoyed in past titles, that players believe, if added here, will make the Kalos experience so much better. Having faster traversal mechanics, being able to breed the perfect Pokemon, or encountering Kalosian forms are at the front of our minds.

And honestly, Game Freak, are they really too much to ask? Feeling satisfied with the game so far? Well, keep reading, and you might find yourself wanting more!

Faster Traversal Mechanics

For a Pokemon title that puts heavy emphasis on urban exploration, strong bonds, and redevelopment, it is honestly quite surprising how limited the traversal mechanics are in this game, namely: running, sprinting, rolling, falling, taxi cabs, and limited map fast travel. And yes, that's it. Is this innovation? Where are the bicycles, the roller skates, and the scooters? Nada.

Heck, we even got Pokemon rides in Pokemon X and Y, but somehow they don't deserve to come back in a much more fleshed-out and explorable Lumiose City. It truly is a missed opportunity, and sadly, for now, we'll stick to burning the soles of those rubber shoes. At least we get to appreciate the streets a little bit more.

The Ability to Jump Upward

Yes, it is common knowledge that Pokemon Legends: Z-A allows the player to fall off higher platforms and be saved by Rotom, as well as the ability to climb higher scaffolding, but that's not jumping, is it? If we are given the feature to jump with a press of a button and have air time, platforming would be much easier and would not rely on collision spaces to trigger climbing animation.

The ability to elevate ourselves upon jumping also means we would be able to cover a longer distance when trying to cross from one building rooftop to another. And lastly, we can skip stairs. But nope, apparently, jumping is prohibited in Lumiose City.

Cooperative & Team Up Online Features

This is yet again another huge missed opportunity in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Yes, we are also aware that there's the Z-A Battle Club, where you can join a chaotic 4-player battle zone, or the Private Battle Lobby, where you can set up a private session to battle against a friend or a stranger.

But what we want are online cooperative modes where you get to team up with other players and engage in online features as companions. Maybe online cooperative puzzles or the biggest fumble, online Mega Raids, where you and other players strategize and take down extra-powerful Rogue Mega-Evolved Pokemon. Now THAT is what you call fun!

In-Game Breeding or Day Care Services

Breeding Pokemon has been a trusted and beloved method of creating the perfect Pocket Monster since Generation 2, and it's sad that for a title that introduces and provides early access to countless favorites, it is easy to see why people tend to miss it. Breeding allows players to make a Pokemon with special moves, better stats, or have an elevated shiny chance, but unfortunately, even with the release of DLC, this feature is still not here.

Also, given how much time exploring and battling takes when we play Legends: Z-A, a Day Care service that gives passive experience gain to our Pokemon can be truly handy.

Kalos Regional Variants

And of course, although technically not a mechanic, with every new Pokemon title that introduces a new region or dares to revisit a past location, fans always look forward to new and fresh regional variants. Pokemon Sword and Shield gave us 19 Galarian Forms, while Legends: Arceus gave us 17 Hisuian Forms.

How many did we get for the grand and $70 Pokemon Legends: ZA? Zero. And to be frank, that was very disappointing because the urbanization and domestication of some of Pokemon's designs could've been really awesome to see. Again, the DLC could've been the answer to this, but instead, we got more chores.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A, don't get us wrong, wasn't too bad of an experience, but some things in the game could've made our playthrough much more comfortable, immersive, interactive, and awe-inspiring. For now, we are stuck with what we have, and with Generation 10 looming around us like a massive wind of adventure, we highly doubt these features will ever be added.
