Microsoft’s The Initiative Announces 16 New Hires, Including Destiny 2 And Tomb Raider Devs

Microsoft’s self-described “AAAA” studio, The Initiative, announced 16 new recruits on Monday.

As reported by IGN, the new hires include Marvel’s Avengers director Remi Lacoste and Destiny 2 narrative lead Christine Thompson.

They join such recent recruits asGod of War (2018) lead producer Brian Westergaard, Red Dead Redemption writer Christian Cantamessa, and Rise of the Tomb Raider director Daniel Neuburger.

First announced in 2018, the first-party developer’s mission statement “is to create ambitious and innovative game experiences that our audience will love. We are passionate about craft, creating stories, and building the next big thing in gaming.”

The Initiative is led by former Crystal Dynamics head Darrell Gallagher, whose past credits include projects like Destiny 2, Hitman (’16), and Tomb Raider (’13).

Whatever the studio’s making, they haven’t tipped their hand just yet. The Initiative’s website has a news page that hasn’t been updated since E3 2018.

The Series X is set to launch in November, but The Initiative’s first big project is still over the horizon, for now.
