No Man’s Sky is celebrating its 9th anniversary with one of its biggest updates yet. The new update, called Voyagers, brings a complete overhaul to the space sandbox slash simulation from Hello Games, and it all starts with your spaceship.

For the first time in the game’s history, Hello Games is ditching the old “Hold E to Enter Spaceship” mechanic and replacing it with a fully functioning mobile home base. Now you can simply hop in and out at any time.

Introducing the Corvette!

Voyagers introduces the Corvette, a brand-new spaceship type designed to be your personal sanctuary for lightyears to come. Players can build their own Corvettes with deep customization options, and you can step in and out of the pilot’s seat whenever you like. And the best part? You could dive out of the airlock anytime and hover in space to ponder the meaning of life, or even invite friends aboard your new ship.

The Corvette is meant to be your home away from home, complete with essentials like a kitchen, hydroponics, med-bays, sleeping quarters, and more. It’s easy to imagine fans turning their ships into iconic homages, like the Rocinante from The Expanse or the Normandy from Mass Effect.

A whole new world.

While both feature customizable aspects, No Man’s Sky has no loading times whenever you’re going in and out of a planet. Plus, the feeling of just getting out of the ship’s airlock and diving into space with friends is something Starfield can’t do.

Unlike previous updates like Worlds Part 1 and 2, Voyagers focuses less on new planets or alien species and more on the technical overhaul of the game’s ship mechanics. The emphasis this time is on the pilot and its ship, making exploration of the galaxy feel far more immersive.

Sean Murray, founder of Hello Games, expressed his excitement about the update, noting that many of the technologies used in Voyagers are shared with their upcoming title, Light No Fire. That game is expected to push these immersive systems even further, though details on its seamless co-op remain under wraps.

Fun with friends!

Voyagers may be No Man’s Sky’s most ambitious gameplay update yet, and it has the potential to win back players who want a more personalized space adventure. It might even lure in some who felt underwhelmed by Bethesda’s Starfield.

Even after nine years, Hello Games shows no signs of slowing down. With Sean Murray’s passion driving the project, players can expect even more free updates long after Voyagers.
