When thinking about video games that are perfect for couples, most people would go with names like Split Fiction, It Takes Two, and Stardew Valley, among others. While there are many great options, there is one I believe trumps them all: Portal 2.
Developed by Vavle and released in 2011, it is a critically acclaimed first-person puzzle-platformer. While it's more known for providing an amazing single-player experience, its co-op multiplayer mode was just as good and well-received. To such an extent that I believe it offers the perfect opportunity to test a relationship between two people.
One reason is that out of the many different games for couples, Portal 2 feels like it needs the most communication among them all. In its co-op mode, to get from one level to the next, it requires perfect timing and coordination in using portals, blocks, physics, and other means that allow both players to reach the exit.

If one player isn't working in tandem with the other, then there is no way to overcome any of the obstacles. This means that there will be many instances where both partners will need to discuss their respective tasks, and they must be in agreement at all times on what needs to be done.
So, every level is a test that determines a couple's ability to trust each other to do their part, and they become harder the further both players progress in the game. This makes it the perfect multiplayer game that showcases how far each person needs to go in terms of talking and listening, which can help heal a relationship or make it even stronger than ever.
Another reason why every couple needs to play Portal 2, one that I think is the most important, is that it allows both to learn to be patient with one another. Again, every level of the co-op mode requires two players to work together to beat it. There are cases where one may be less skilled in terms of platforming, puzzle-solving, or even understanding the in-game physics, which often means having to repeat sections that would have been easily beaten with a more competent partner.
With that, the more adept individual will have to learn to set aside the potential frustration gained from dying to something like a turret or falling into corrosive waste repeatedly, and instead figure out the best way to teach the other what needs to be done and when. The person on the receiving end will have to learn how to trust the instructions given and take the time necessary to learn how to perform them correctly until becoming proficient.

In many ways, the co-op mode teaches both sides a different form of patience, which is beneficial for giving partners a better understanding of their limitations and helping them know the best ways to work together to overcome them.
So, if you and your partner want a couple game that helps take your relationship to the next level, consider playing Portal 2. It will undoubtedly be a memorable experience and can even reveal sides of each person that have never been shown before, allowing for a deeper understanding of one another that can further strengthen the bond.
