After fans kept complaining online, Team Cherry has decided to nerf two early bosses in Hollow Knight: Silksong. The dreaded Moorwing, as well as Sister Splinter.

If you’ve played through Silksong for a few hours, you’ve likely encountered Moorwing, one of the most annoying early bosses in the game. Team Cherry’s latest patch has reduced the difficulty of the boss “slightly,” according to the September 9 patch notes. What kind of nerfs both bosses got remains to be seen, but Steam players can access the update public-beta branch, with the update hitting consoles soon.

The community complained; Team Cherry listened

Moorwing was a very hot topic of conversation for Silksong players early on. It quickly became one of the most hated encounters due to its weird hitboxes that caught players off guard. The most notorious example is the fact that you could lose two masks of health even when Moorwing was stunned by simply getting too close to the beast.

Sentiment online was strong, to put it lightly. Some users even called Moorwing one of the worst boss fights they’ve played in any game in a long time.

Moorwing is one of the worst bosses I’ve fought in a video game in a long time. Boring, small attack variety. Does too much damage. Massive health pool. Wonky hitboxes and if you make contact EVEN WHILE IT’S STUNNED you take damage,” one user wrote.

The most hated boss in Silksong

I can particularly relate to the feeling of frustration of fighting Moorwing. It can be an annoying boss fight to deal with, especially with a ton of knowledge checks that are extremely punishing. Yes, the first time you get hit while trying to smack the stunned beast feels brutal; not only do you lose precious time to deal that extra bit of damage, but you lose up to masks yourself.

But did it warrant a nerf? I’m not entirely sure. Again, at the moment, we don’t necessarily know how big a nerf both bosses got (I won’t even bother mentioning the Sister Splinter, as she was extremely easy and nerfing her has the entire community puzzled for that same reason) but robbing players from that satisfaction of trumping a boss at the height of their power will definitely leave a few hardcore players disappointed.
