There’s a Parasite Eve game coming, but it’s not the kind you expect. Titled Parasite Mutant, this Parasite Eve-inspired sci-fi horror RPG takes a lot of pages from the acclaimed Square title.
This spiritual successor to one of 2000s sci-fi horror RPG title is developed by IceSitruuna, the team behind the RPG metroidvania Frontier hunter: Erza’s Wheel of Fortune.
Right off the bat, it’s obvious that Parasite Mutant is attracting Parasite Eve fans, down to its protagonist who shares the same features as the iconic Aya Brea, with her blonde hair and all. Even more so, its art direction is clearly paying homage to Aya’s adventures with its late 90s to 2000s vibe that feels like playing on a PlayStation One.

The biggest thing to notice here is how its gameplay harkens back to the classic Parasite Eve titles as well, most especially with its Active Time Battle System.
Combat in Parasite Mutant is a combination of what Aya Brea had in Parasite Eve but with a modern touch to avoid frustrations over a two-decade old mechanic. Now dubbed as “Active Time Chains,” players will need to wait until their gauge is full to perform specific actions. For added context, this is similar to how the modern Remakes of Final Fantasy VII has, where Cloud and friends can freely move, but are unable to perform special actions. In Parasite Mutant, the main character, Agent Nova (which is definitely not Aya Brea) needs to charge up her ATC gauge so she can shoot and perform any actions. Additionally, she can chain two ATC slots to perform powerful combos against enemies. However, that will also deplete her movement options, making evasion tricky. This kind of high risk, high reward system is present in Parasite Eve games as well, but Parasite Mutant amps it up even further for the modern audience.

Even IceSitruuna has replicated the fixed camera angles that the series was known for, as Agent Nova fights off abominable horrors as well as the restrictive camera angles. Other special features in this game includes the ability to switch multiple outfits, a New Game Plus that carries over upgrades, and a familiar weapon progression system a la Parasite Eve.
Parasite Eve fans have been dying to get their hands on a new game ever since Square seemingly stopped making new Parasite Eve entries after the PSP’s “The Third Birthday,” which was arguably the final nail in the coffin for Aya Brea’s future as many fans didn’t like the overall tone and gameplay of it. We’ve talked at length about how a Parasite Eve remake would be good today, as there has been a resurgence of survival horror and horror titles as a whole thanks to the return of household franchises like Silent Hill and Resident Evil.
No specific release date yet, but Parasite Mutant is coming to PC (Steam) and PlayStation sometime this 2026.
