One Class in Battlefield 6 Won’t Be as Strong After Nerfs

Battlefield 6’s open beta was the first look at the class system, but the balance shown wasn’t final.

According to the developers, the build that fans tested was already outdated by the time it went live, with tweaks in motion behind the scenes.

The studio used the beta not only to stress-test servers but also to gather data on which mechanics and roles were standing out too much. The beta revealed that the Assault class was outperforming the rest and required tuning.

Why Is Assault Getting Nerfed?

Developers at Ripple Effect acknowledged that Assaults were simply too efficient at covering multiple roles on their own.

In firefights, they dominated the pace of play, while other classes like Support often felt less essential by comparison.

Creative director Thomas Andersson was upfront in saying that Assaults will lose some of that solo power.

The team intentionally dialed back their raw strength so they can’t steamroll fights without leaning on squad coordination.

That may sound like a downgrade, but the intent isn’t to weaken the class into irrelevance — it’s to shift its strengths in a different direction.

What New Responsibilities Will Assault Have?

Instead of functioning as one-man wrecking crews, Assaults are being redesigned to shine as team players.

One of the clearest signs of this is the deploy beacon, a gadget previously tied to Recon, which is being reassigned to Assault.

This move cements the idea that Assault soldiers are the spearhead of the squad, the ones who break through defenses and give teammates a foothold behind enemy lines.

In practice, this means that while Assaults won’t rack up kills as effortlessly in every situation, their ability to secure positions and keep the team in the fight will make them just as valuable in coordinated play.
