Nintendo has officially acquired shares of Bandai Namco Studios Singapore. If all goes to plan, the company will obtain 80% of the studios' shares in April 2026. Following this, the studio will be renamed to Nintendo Studios Singapore.
Both companies have worked on co-developing games in the past. In the case of Bandai Namco Singapore, the subsidiary has contributed to the development of games such as Splatoon. The studio's big focus is on in-game art assets.
In reality, it looks like very few things will change regarding how the soon-to-be Nintendo Studios Singapore will operate. They were a support studio designed to provide aid to major developers on different projects, rather than focusing on creating them themselves. If you're expecting big things to come out of this, I'd say temper your expectations.
What Games Has Bandai Namco Studios Singapore Worked On?
Bandai Namco Studios Singapore has worked on a total of four games: Taiko no Tatsujin: VR Festival, SoulCalibur VI, Splatoon 3, and Ace Combat 7.
Out of these, only Taiko no Tatsujin was fully developed by the studio. They provided support on the remaining three, which included UI Illustrations and character animations for SCVI, concept art and animations for Splatoon 3, as well as developing the multiplayer component for Ace Combat 7.
Now that they'll be transitioning into a Nintendo subsidiary, they'll likely work closely on more Nintendo projects, obviously. Again, while it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility that they become main developers on a brand-new game, their role will probably remain the same as it has been for the past decade.
