Most Switch 2 Ports Will Be 30 FPS (And That’s Okay)

Final Fantasy VII Remake Switch 2

Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is going to run at 30 FPS on the Nintendo Switch 2, which will probably get a mixed reaction. Ever since fans got current-gen consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, some of them have been obsessed with the performance of these games, only wanting 60 FPS for their titles.

But if we’re being realistic about things, most of the Switch 2’s third-party ports are going to run at 30 FPS. That’s not a bad thing either, as 30 FPS is more than playable, especially when it comes to these stronger games. Would it be nice if FF7R were 60 FPS on Switch 2? Sure. But that shouldn’t be the only factor that determines if a game runs well.

Nintendo Is Still Nintendo

Even though the Switch 2 is an impressive piece of technology, it’s still a console made by good old Nintendo. The company might be able to make 60 FPS games easily on this system, but that doesn’t mean other publishers will. Just because Donkey Kong Bananza can run at 60 FPS doesn’t mean Elden Ring can do the same.

Fans were probably hoping that Final Fantasy VII Remake would be playable at 40 FPS at the least, since that’s still a solid framerate to have. But even at 30 FPS, this game is going to look really good on Nintendo’s hybrid console, especially with all the combat fans will be taking part in. Having 60 FPS would have been nice since this is a pretty linear game, but 30 FPS is more than playable.

Current-Gen Games Are Slowly Conforming to 30 FPS

While there are still plenty of games that run at 60 FPS or more on the PS5 and Xbox Series, some titles can’t go above 30 FPS. Monster Hunter Wilds and Dragon’s Dogma 2 are major examples of this, showing that these consoles still have their issues. Fans shouldn’t be too surprised if more of these games are going to be restricted to 30 FPS, as technology will keep evolving.

It would be nice if Final Fantasy VII Remake ran at 60 FPS, especially since it reaches that on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. But this game still looks amazing at 30 FPS, and we’re sure Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will perform similarly when it hits the Nintendo console. Hopefully, that’s soon, so that Square Enix can already start planning the third game for Nintendo Switch 2.
