The latest Monster Hunter Wilds update is here, and it’s receiving praise from the community for its increasing challenge and better endgame rewards. However, fans are also worried that the recent buff to Apex monsters and the focus on higher rank icons are stealing the spotlight, making low-rank monsters feel obsolete.
A lot of players are also reporting that they don’t want to keep fighting the same 9 monsters again and again.
Sure, monsters like Gore Magala, Lagiacrus, and Seregios are getting beefed up with new 9-Star difficulty quests, but players also want to see the lower rank roster get more love. Monsters like Chatacabra, Quematrice, and the gorgeously designed Lala Barina are now stuck in low-rank with seemingly no reason to hunt them anymore due to the game’s focus on higher-tier monsters.

That’s the bad news first. However, the good news is that more monsters will receive the 9-Star Difficulty treatment in later updates, particularly in Event Quests. This comes after Monster Hunter Wilds’ Community Manager, Jonno Stanton, confirmed that Capcom will look into improving the older set of monsters. We might even see them gain new moves in their 9-Star versions, making them more rewarding to hunt.

Monster Hunter Wilds is no longer “easy” as its growing roster of monsters has been getting stronger than ever, especially with the return of the iconic Lagiacrus that once terrorized Monster Hunter Tri. Capcom has even brought back its underwater battle, much to the delight of fans, though it is a more toned-down version compared to Tri.
New monsters like Mizutsune and Seregios are also receiving harder iterations of their fights, forcing players to think and prepare carefully to avoid getting one-shotted. Even Apex monsters like Nu Udra and Jin Dahaad are getting tougher versions with massive health pools and high-damage moves.
As mentioned in previous pieces, Capcom’s increasing monster difficulty is tied to the game’s new endgame system called Talismans. After each hunt with a 9-Star monster, players are rewarded with Glowing Stones that can be appraised to unlock Talismans with randomly generated skills. Many players compare this endgame grind to the one found in Monster Hunter Rise.

For now, the higher-tier monsters are enjoying the spotlight, but Capcom has assured players that low-rank monsters will also receive higher-difficulty upgrades in future updates. We may have to wait a few months before we see more powerful versions of monsters like Ajarakan and Rathalos.
