Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls looks like it’s going to be a quality fighter, with some of the best redesigns we’ve seen for these characters. Seeing a Gundam-like design for Iron Man and a Guilty Gear-inspired look for Star-Lord gives this game so much personality. Add those unique fighting mechanics, and this game has the potential to make these characters more popular than ever.
Selfishly, I hope this game can repair the mismanaged reputation of Ms. Marvel, whose powers have fallen victim to corporate synergy. Thankfully, Arc System Works has decided to use her classic Inhuman powers, and we hope this leads to the normalization of Kamala Khan’s stretchy powers.
Not So Marvelous
In Disney’s Ms. Marvel show, they gave her more cosmic-based light powers that are similar to DC’s Green Lantern. While it led to some fun fight scenes in The Marvels, the change to her powers has been an overall negative since they’ve bled over to the comics. She now has a mixture of these light-based powers and her original powers, which allow her to stretch and change her height, making her a mix between Mr. Fantastic and Giant Man.
Also, she’s now an Inhuman who is also a mutant, because corporate synergy has to ruin everything.
Because of all that, it’s refreshing to see Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls keep her more stretchy-based move-set. It’s her better power set, and we hope this game’s popularity will normalize that for our cool girl Kamala Khan. Maybe include her in Marvel Rivals and keep these powers as well, while adding a few different moves that will differentiate her from Mr. Fantastic.
The Games Know What’s Up
Despite the MCU changing Kamala’s powers, the games she’s appeared in have been consistent with her stretching and growing moves. Granted, some of these games were created before her MCU powers were decided, but they did a good job of making people know Ms. Marvel and showing them what she can do.
Marvel’s Avengers might have been a flawed attempt at live-service gaming, but focusing the campaign on Ms. Marvel and letting fans experience her powers firsthand was a nice touch. She was also really fun to use in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, where fans got to see how Kamala interacts with other characters from this universe.

We hope that Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls can give Kamala even more exposure, and maybe even guilt Marvel into keeping her powers more simple. Fans already don’t like how they forced her into becoming a mutant, and some of her recent comics pale in comparison to her earlier stories as an Inhuman.
