Arc System Works and Sony are going to go big on Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. The companies have a very ambitious 10-year plan for the tag fighter and are looking to support it.
During the Evo 2025 finals (via Push Square), producer Takeshi Yamanaka stated that the ideal plan for Marvel Tokon would be to get support for 10 years. That would put the fighting game well beyond the PS5 life cycle and possibly last the vast majority of the PS6 one, too.
A Microsoft court document, of all things, leaked a potential release date for the PlayStation 6, which is reportedly 2027. If Tokon is released in 2026, the game would be only one year old, still fresh and ready to become a pillar of the fighting game community.
Arc System Works has slowly pivoted to heavily supporting its titles in recent years. Guilty Gear Strive is still getting DLC four years after release, with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners' Lucy set to come out this August.
Beyond that, GGST 2.0, a potentially revamped version of the game, is slated for 2026, making at least five years of support for one of the studio's flagship titles.
As for Tokon, things are looking bright. It is, after all, a project that has Sony funding behind it (part of the reason it's not planned to hit Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2 as it stands). The big Japanese juggernaut is looking to make the most out of its investment, going as far as announcing a new fight stick that looks quite slick.
In terms of what a successful Marvel Tokon looks like on the side of Arc System Works, simple: a plethora of DLC, a constant barrage of updates that could range from balance changes to maybe more modes appealing to both casual and more tryhard players, and potentially a thriving competitive scene that could keep the game alive for well over a decade.
