  • Key Update: Emma Frost mains are frustrated as NetEase continues to release underwhelming skins while favoring other heroes with more frequent, high-quality cosmetics.

  • Quick Answer: Emma Frost in Marvel Rivals lacks standout skins, leaving mains frustrated, while heroes like Luna Snow and Invisible Woman get better cosmetic updates.

Considered one of Marvel’s most fashion-forward characters, Emma Frost in Marvel Rivals is stuck with some of the least exciting skins in the game, and fans (and I) are not happy with it.

The problem was exacerbated when one of Emma Frost’s latest skins, the Queen of Diamonds, features the same generic white coat and coattail she usually wears. It has no major distinction apart from the bland recolors, thick thighs and another set of bizarre diamond shoulder pads. Unlike Luna Snow’s dynamic color palette or Invisible Woman’s cute cake outfit, Emma’s selection of outfits is far from extraordinary, and she is falling behind the other Marvel ladies.

What is this?

This has prompted the community to once again call out NetEase, with some even asking, “Are they allergic to money?" as Emma Frost mains are already prepared to spend if the skin is good.

NetEase has an entire catalog of standout Emma Frost designs to pull from in the comics. Iconic looks from House of X, Astonishing X-Men, and New X-Men remain some of her most recognizable outfits. Yet it often feels as if NetEase is willfully ignoring these options, leaving Emma Frost mains with little reason to shell out $10–$20 for underwhelming skins.

Perhaps the best Emma Frost skin in the game, personally, was the Hellfire Protocol outfit. Coated in a cyberpunk-ish blue with a glass crown, it was a breath of fresh air from her usual designs. The skin has a very distinctive futuristic-coded motif and not another that appeases the “gooners,” as the internet calls them.

Emma’s lack of good skins is also pretty ironic, considering she is one of the most powerful Vanguards in the game with a pick rate of 10% (according to NetEase’s data). Her frontline presence has been a standard pick among high-elo matches, where she is capable of shutting down divers and squishies with ease. Seeing an Emma Frost main rocking the same default skin does not incite intimidation to the enemy team. Good skins equal good skill, after all (at least, that’s what a lot of people say).

As a Lord Emma Frost main myself, I never bothered to purchase either one of her outfits.

At this point, NetEase has made it clear which Marvel Rivals heroes are their favorites when it comes to cosmetic support. Characters like Invisible Woman, Luna Snow, and Thor consistently receive new, high-quality skins, while less-prioritized heroes are left with the same month-old designs. The imbalance is becoming increasingly noticeable, especially for mains who see other characters refreshed regularly while their own are effectively sidelined.

It’s such a shame, really. Emma Frost’s treatment in Marvel Rivals is the most bizarre. With decades of comic-book history and iconic designs to draw from, she should be a natural fit for standout cosmetics. Instead, her underwhelming skin lineup makes it feel as though NetEase has quietly sidelined her in favor of more popular heroes. Here’s hoping future seasons will finally give her the outfit and attention she deserves.
