It's Weird How Resident Evil Requiem Is Scarier Than Silent Hill f

Resident Evil and Silent Hill

Everything about Resident Evil Requiem has looked frightening, from the tense atmosphere to the dark corridors; it has done a successful job of keeping players afraid. Add in that terrifying foe who chases poor Grace Ashcroft around, and this game is designed to give players plenty of nightmares.

On the other side of the spectrum, Silent Hill f also looks like a good game, albeit one that’s far from scary. Sure, there are all sorts of creepy-looking spirits in this game, but it seems like lead character Shimizu Hinako can handle most of them by herself. That’s because f is going for more of an action RPG route, which isn’t a bad choice, just a curious one.

Considering how Resident Evil has always been the action game with campy scares, while Silent Hill frightened fans with its deep psychological horror, it’s weird how Requiem is a lot scarier than f. Both franchises are allowed to go in different directions, and we’re sure some fans have already picked which one they like better. Still, it’s odd how both sides have gone in opposite directions in terms of horror.

Resident Evil Is Actually Scary Now

Let’s be fair here; Resident Evil Requiem isn’t the only creepy game in this series. To many, Resident Evil 7 is when Capcom embraced true horror, while still giving players combat that makes them feel somewhat empowered. Village jumped the shark a bit with its levels having plenty of action, but Requiem is back with that more grounded horror.

You know, until Leon or whoever the other protagonist comes along and starts gunning foes down in an awesome way.

It’s cool seeing Capcom embrace their horror side more, even if they still keep that arcade-y gameplay feel and campy scares Resident Evil 4 is known for. These games are always going to have their quips and over-the-top lines, which isn’t a bad thing at all. But seeing Capcom embrace being scary is pretty cool.

Silent Souls?

Everyone has already made jokes about Silent Hill f seemingly being a soulslike, but it is shocking to see the series delve into action RPG territory. Granted, this isn’t the first action RPG in the series – Silent Hill: Book of Memories says hello – but everyone agrees that f is an odd entry.

To give Konami some credit, the company does want to diversify Silent Hill somewhat. We did see that excellent remake of Silent Hill 2 from Bloober Team, and we’re now getting a remake of the first game as well. Despite some initial fears about the combat, Silent Hill 2’s remake stayed scary, and now we’re excited about that first game’s remake.

Silent Hill f looks like a good action RPG. Resident Evil Requiem looks like a great horror game. Fans can enjoy both games with no issue at all, but it’s still kind of funny seeing them switch places for this era of horror.
