It’s rare to see a major AAA game still supporting older consoles in 2025, but Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is breaking that trend.

While franchises such as Battlefield have gone all-in on next-gen hardware, Activision and Treyarch continue to support PS4 and Xbox One users.

Here’s everything to know about why Black Ops 7 is still coming to last-gen systems, what to expect performance-wise, and how it ties into the game’s overall launch plans.

Is Black Ops 7 on PS4 and Xbox One?

Yes. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will officially launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, alongside PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on November 14, 2025.

Most big studios have left last-gen behind, but Activision and Treyarch decided not to.

The studio said it made sense to do so, as a surprisingly large portion of the community still plays on PS4 and Xbox One.

Keeping those players included keeps the community large and matchmaking fast from day one.

Why Is Treyarch Still Supporting Old Consoles?

Treyarch senior director of production, Yale Miller, explained that a “shocking number” of people still use last-gen systems, which was a major factor in their decision.

According to him, the team knew it could deliver the main gameplay experience without sacrificing too much.

The game won’t look or run as well as the current-gen versions, but the main experience remains unchanged.

Treyarch made it clear that while it designs new features around modern hardware, it still ensures the older versions feel complete enough for fans who haven’t upgraded yet.

What Features Are Missing on PS4 and Xbox One?

Some features are still off the table for PS4 and Xbox One, including the classic Theater mode that lets players revisit their matches.

Treyarch clarified that this didn’t warrant removing the feature completely. They only turned it off for older consoles while keeping it active on newer ones.

The studio keeps the same rule in mind. It builds for modern consoles first and optimizes for older ones after.

Players on last-gen systems will see lower visual quality, fewer lighting effects, and slightly longer load times, though gameplay and content remain identical.
